Am I missing something?

NGC retail price guide is $1500 for an MS65 RB. At $1000, that is just about right.

TRUTH

But that valuation is with out the DD date, so up it to maybe $1,250 +

Possibly. I think it would be worth more if the DD is on the holder. Maybe Rick Snow would know?

Nice coin, but not a very widely collected series or variety. I'm sorry to say but if you decide to resell you may have a hard time.

I am troubled that you would spend that amount of money on a coin and not be certain so that you ask for assurances here. Perhaps asking beforehand could save you some grief in the future. Or you can chalk it up to tuition. :(

Just purchased this coin on Ebay at far below it's price guide value. Super excited as I believe I scored, but am I missing something?

Did you check auction archives to see what others have sold for? Often, price guides are highly inaccurate and you shouldn't make purchasing decisions on them, alone.

Thanks for the advice, but if it was a great deal and I posted it before buying, odds would seem high someone would buy it before I could.

You will be happy I think

as far as price guides go, 95%++ sell below most guides

you could have gotten it a couple hundred cheaper a couple weeks ago

last sale link

although that does not mean you did not do well

I agree with Woody, a repunched date with little hike in value. Then that's just

my opinion. Yet, still a good buy, as two have sold on Heritage in the last 4 months, a PCGS MS65RB for $1150 and an NGC MS65RB for $1495. Great pick up, regardless.

It has some strike weakness and a spot on the left hand leaves that might have held it back some. The RPD is nice but I'm not sure that would make a difference in value. I think people looking at it saw the spot and the weakness and felt it just didn't quite live up to the MS-65 level.

Searching Heritage would be more realistic than a price guide for a coin like this. And it shows big swings for recent auctions, from $775 to $1495.

OP is probably not buried but it wasn't a steal either.

Tough coin to resell.
