QUESTION: Which figure in American Literature was once an employee of the San Francisco Mint?

 

 

ANSWER: Francis "Bret" Harte was employed there in a clerical capacity during the 1860's. He is famous for such works as "The Luck of Roarting Camp" and "The Luck of Roarting Camp" and "The Outcasts of Poker Flat."
