In-hand pics - 1834 Bust Dime

Here's my in-hand pics. Excellent eye appeal with nice toning in shades of blue. Probably a technical 35 as several have noted. A market 40 for sure.

 

From Northeast Numismatics for $249.

Looking at the ANA grading guide, it looks like an EF-40, but years ago it would have been a VF-30 or 35. The coin above has lost quite a bit of detail for the EF grade IMO.

 

Compare the amount of detail that has been lost with this piece that is a AU with some issues.

How much of the "lost detail" can be attributed to striking vs. wear?

 

I agree standards are looser to be sure but it seems like Bust Dimes, particularly the reverses, rarely have sharp detail on the high points of the devices.
