Interested in Collecting Old Silver Coins from Europe

Hi, I am looking for some guidance in collecting old silver coins from Europe...I did research on the 5 and 2 Reichsmark silver coins but was wondering if there are any other coins, (i.e. the Franc or Lira) that have at least 80% silver content.

There are some very nice silver coins from England, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

 

Also there are some beautiful Swiss Shooting Medals minted in silver, here is an example about the size of a Morgan Dollar.....

6-7 years ago, you could get a lot of the European silver medals dirt cheap, but not any more.

Almost any country you want is available, from big to small. I'd suggest finding a deries of designs you like to have some sort of theme to them though (unlike me).

The range of possibilities is VAST. As was suggested, you might want to get your hands on some parts of the Standard Catalog Of World Coins (available on eBay or Amazon). If you are just looking for an area to collect, you won't need the most current editions, so the books should be cheap.
