If you had $250 to spend on Prez Bucks,...

which President's dollar coins would you choose to help the Mint distribute by using them in small purchases?

I was thinking of Millard Fillmore, but I missed my chance. I think I may wait until William Henry Harrison.

So who would you choose? Harding? Jimmy Carter?

The Carter coin is off well into the future, but I understand you sarcasm.

There are more than few presidents who should not have had a commemorative coin issued for them. They are best left buried in the history books.

As for the presidents you listed, poor William Henry Harrison didn't have a chance to do anything before he died except give the longest inaugural speech in history on a blustery day, which resulted in his premature death. Fillmore did what he could to deal with the slavery crisis (the Comprimise of 1850) although it was ineffective. That's more than you can say for his successors, Piece and Buchanan, who really were among the worst presidents.

Warren Harding at least had the good sense to known he did not have the mental capacity for the job early in his brief term in office. That’s more than you can say for Jimmy Carter, who has yet to realize his limitations. He makes of fool of himself almost every time he opens his mouth, except when he talks about Habitat for Humanities.

BTW the William Henry Harrison dollar has been issued. Perhaps you are thinking about his grand son, Benjamin Harrison. He was a mediocre president, who hurt at lot of working people with his high tariff policies.

I bought a roll of Abraham Lincoln dollars, picked out the best five, and spent the rest. They look so nice and shiny right out of the roll.. almost glitters like gold :D

None. Why help the Mint? I want these things to pile up to obscene levels so that the Congress has to take notice that they are a complete failure and order either their production halt or the elimination of the paper dollar.

...hmmm, that's asking a lot to ask congress to take notice.

Why would you want to halt the production of presidential dollar coins?

Probably fear of a repeat of the Morgan Dollar hoards of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

...might be because he knows the feds are storing a 13 year supply as it is now.

When I said I missed the William Henry Harrison dollars, I meant that they are no longer available under the Mint's direct-ship program.

I'm going to spend them to see if by causing a bit of confusion I can get some people interested in finding out who our Presidents were. Maybe the gal at Burger King will wonder what else she doesn't know after she calls the manager over to inspect a Buchanan dollar to see if it's real. Maybe the manager will have to check and see if the Treasury is currently releasing these coins.

Personally, I don't think there's a reason to have a living person on a coin, currency or ship. But I guess that's just one of the many reasons I'm not in charge.

I'd buy a nice Capped Bust Half dollar.

Let me know when you're ready to spend that half dollar. I'll gladly take it for its full face value (even though it's obsolete).

Who is living that is on a coin?

Chris, at the time of minting, I believe the Governor of Arkansas was on the commem half before his passing. And, soon, there will be a number of Presidents that will have their face on coinage before they pass. I just don't think that's right. It feels like the way Europe treats royalty. And to me, they are nowhere near royalty. To me, even royalty doesn't deserve that position, but that's probably why I'm not in charge!!

Also, wasn't there a lady here recently that was on a coin that was still living?

The series should not have started in the first place. Some presidents were so bad that they don't deserve a commemorative coin. Why honor them when there are others who did more to make America great?

Of course in these PC times some of the people who built great business empires who provided jobs to thousands of people and issued stocks and bonds that made investers, savers and retired people wealthy or financially secure are regarded as the "bad guys."

If you don't like prosperity, you’re going to hate poverty, unless you are a masochist. The people of this country better wake up learn the facts about what socialism does to prosperity and the general welfare of the human race. If you read history, you know the results have not been pretty.

That was Eunice Shriver, who recently passed. Wasn't on a circulating coin, but the 'Special Olympics' commem silver dollar.
