Don't feel bad. My photography $uck$. Just ask anyone here. :roflmao:

 

It looks like you're not using enough light, but don't put your light sources directly above the coin, or you will just get glare or a washed-out image.

From my experience, I would immediately tell you that the problem isn't lighting, it's camera angle. When you are shooting at such an extreme angle, the top of the coin is further away from the camera lens than is the bottom - by at least a full inch! Thus, there's no way for your camera to focus well.

 

You need to get the camera directly above the coin so that all edges are more or less the same distance from the lens. And, position your light as close to directly above as possible (in other words, next to the camera).

 

Oh, and the coin looks MS-61 to me.
