QUESTION:

 

Nickel is now a standard metal used in coinage, but this wasn’t always the case.

 

What was the first known use of Nickel in coinage?

More than 2,000 years ago, a copper alloy containing around 20% nickel appeared in the form of coins in Bactria, a province of southern Russia.

1856, with the Flying Eagle cent, the transition from large to small cents and the introduction of a 12% nickel composition. 1857 was when the coin was first officially minted, but enough 1856 pattern and/or proof coins slipped into circulation that 1856 is effectively considered the first of a three year mintage.

Nickel alloy was first used in Bactria, an ancient kingdom based mainly in what is now Afghanistan and Pakistan, during the reigns of the kings Euthydemus II, Agathocles, and Pantaleon (c.185-180 B.C.).

hey lisa,you wrong.it was started with the chinese way before the bacs did it .way before n1751.if you go into the question you will realize the chinese started coins with nickel in it.it was called"the knife-coin"
