Certainly the quality of even the basic fakes has improved dramatically over the last few years.

i never understood why they dont just make them out of silver. Yes it is more costly but they would still be selling at a premium and probably have a lot more buyers making more in the long run.

The puffy rim, lack of feather detail on the eagle's neck, and rounded details make this example fairly obvious. They still can't seem to get the stars or the eagle's eye right.

The most unsettling aspect of this forgery sale is that 10 bids were placed for a coin worth in the thousands in that grade but yet bid a whopping $120+ knowing it was a fake. No one believed they were getting a real coin and to pay so large an amount for a forgery I deduce that this coin will be passed to some unknowing individual for a large sum of money. This is one of the most revolting aspects of this hobby.

As a buyer I'd be more than a little suspicious that a number of similar looking coins are also being offered as copies from sellers in China in other auction listings.

 

"Gee, there's another one that looks the same from another seller in China, and it's only $15."
