1915S half eagle VF?

Got this for Christmas on my 12th birthday in 1970... like the '55 DD lincoln I posted earlier, it rode in my pocket on a lot of days. Was VF when I got it - now?

It looks EF by today's unfortunate grading standards (for reverse-relief gold).

I can't see that - the 'S' is worn flat! I understand that it's a relief device but XF? It was purchased by my parents as VF and then I carried it around

Yeah, grading standards change. What was VF back then is EF now. I agree with James' assessment.

Well, surprise surprise!

 

A coin I got in 1972 as a VF was graded by NGC as AU55!

 

Go figure!

55?!? Wow, either the graders got their bonuses this week, or the image leaves out a lot of detail.

Here is an NGC au58 1915-s CAC certified.

I don’t have an issue with the observe of your coin for the Au 55 grade however the reverse looks very weak on the Eagles feathers. Maybe it is your picture.
