What are you thoughts on this Gold Dollar?

Looks like a counterfeit to me. You did well to pass. (thumbs u

The obverse has mushy devices for Ms. Liberty with a lack of detail on the highest points. There also appears to be chunks of metal in the fields. The rims are indistinct in places, and I don't like the overall relief. Other than that it’s a great coin. :P

gold counterfeit

looks like chinese and made within the last year or so

but i guess it could be lebanese circa 1960's but the lebanese die strruck counterfeits were way better made

if it is lebanese i would be really surprised

For what it's worth, I think you received some good feedback/information about it in your thread on the PCGS forum.

Lumps on letters, bad denticle formation, poorly defined letters, "M" in America recut, goofy stars, lack of detail in coin center (re; Bill Jones). Raw gold dollars are for specialists, buy one in NGC/PCGS slab from reputable dealer, if you have to have one.

I think you deserve to get screwed.

You continue to buy raw coins off eBay without knowing even basic things to look for. If you have no clue as to what a genuine example of this coin should look like, then why the hell are you buying them raw off eBay?

At what point will you buy a book before buying the coin?

Greg---I think everyone here had the same thought. We were just too polite to tell him how stupid he has been acting.

Not everyone. I don't believe that people deserve to be screwed, due to lack of due diligence. I am less sympathetic to such people, but that's not the same as the way Greg and (apparently) you feel.

The first thing that jumps out at me is the shape of the "5" on the reverse. Having cataloged a number of gold dollars of the era, that "5" looks completely wrong, and instantly leads me to say: "counterfeit"! Besides that, the "0" is obviously wrong. You really don't need any diagnostics other than that to know this is a rather poor counterfeit.
