You know, there are more than just 2 designs! There is the small diameter with a lettered edge (1982-1989) the small diameter with the reeded edge (1990-1995) the large diameter with the large eagle obverse (1996-1999) and the large diameter with the millenium obverse (2000-present). Then there was also the coin press design for the onzas minted in 1949, 1979 and 1980.

Here, I just took some photos from my album, it shows the different obverses from the 1995 to 1996, as well as another photo that should give you a hint on how I voted!

They also redid the reverse design in 1991, changing the lettering on the "1 onza" and lowering the relief and detail somewhat. There is actually a lot of variety in this series which makes it so interesting (and somewhat reminiscent of what the US Mint did in half dollars in the early 19th century!).

Well, thanks for the info. I guess there's a little more to this set than I had thought and I'll have to track down a few more of them than I'd originally planned. :)

You know my philosophy, if you have to track down a few more, why stop? Just go for the whole set! And Littleton makes a nice album for them.

Perfectly understandable, and in my eyes a much more interesting set than ASEs!

Probably true, but I have other reasons for wanting a full set of ASEs.

Thanks. I wish I could eliminate some of the noise from the airtites and get white-balance issues settled.
