QUESTION: How many stars are there on a 1912 double eagle?

The answer depends on whether you count the fact that the Sun is a star. There are 48 stars on the obverse. There are 13 stars around the edge (along with E PLURIBUS UNUM). Then there's the Sun from which rays emanate on the reverse.

 

So the answer is 61 if you don't include the Sun, or 62 if you do.
