I don't own gold but I don't see why any gold wouldn't be worth getting graded. Welcome to the forum MI_Diver. Others that are more knowledgeable of this series will chime in soon I'm sure. Nice gold as far as I can tell. It looks at least AU to me.

The coin is probably AU55 and is a common date half eagle. The choice to have it slabbed is yours.

if you intend to sell it to someone who can't tell authentic gold coins from fake ones and demands proof of authenticity, then you should slab it.

This coin is only a choice AU and therefore only marginally worth the slab fee. I think NGC slabs low value gold coins at low prices so you might look into that. At any rate the Gray Sheet prices are flat ($260 to $275) between VF-20 and AU-50 so you don't get much of boost for a higher grade coin. It only makes sense slab if you are going for MS-63 or higher.
