1889-P Morgan Grade and Value?

8 posts in this topic

This is another Silver Dollar from my Father's hoard. As with my other post about a 1934-S from his collection, this one has not been polished by Father or myself...my Grandfather and/or his coin dealer eons ago could have done it, or, more likely, the large amount of shine is what remains from the original mint luster. This coin is AU, I think, I don't believe it is an uncirculated mint copy although it might be.

Polished and worth the Silver content right now ...

The answer to you question - YES - The breast feathers are gone and the DEPTH of detail is been rubbed away on the hair.

I and others use these as pocket pieces ( literally ) to show YN's and to start a natural wear of the coin ... in 4-6 months you will have a XF coin with a more natural look to it

Thanks for sharing

Actually, the breast feather detail is not gone...you just can't see it due to light reflection not allowing the camera to pick it up at that angle. If I have the coin at another angle so the lamp bulb light doesn't reflect directly on the breast feather area, you will see the same detail as on the wing feathers. So this worth way more than just the "silver content"..if you owned it, it would be anyway I'm sure..."Thanks for sharing"...
