I didn't want to give this away before the answer was revealed, but 1872 is an easy one to distinguish from the dimes. If the "D" in UNITED is broken at the top, you have a half-dime.

Looks like a half dime. Of course in 1872 with that obv type there are only two choices the half dime and the dime. The 20 cent doesn't exist yet and the other three all have stars on the obv.
