1836 PCGS 61 Rattler Opinion

What do you think of this coin and will it upgrade?

Looks nice from the pics but they are a little small to be able to tell if it will upgrade. Looks better than 61 from what I can see.

From the small pics you offer, I would believe it would upgrade. Maybe upon enlargement, some issues may appear. But from these pics, it looks pretty sure to upgrade to me. JMO

Wish it was mine. It sold last night on Teletrade for 975.

The toning makes this coin look better than an MS-61, but I think that there is a slight rub on the cheek and on the highest parts of the hair. For that reason I don't think that it would up-grade, but the "look" might allow it to bring a premium price for the MS-61 grade.

 

Another thing in its favor is that this is a very nice strike for the type, and there are no die clash marks, which often impair the beauty of the design.

I'm sorry, but to me, MS-61 seems drastically overgraded! If the coin really looks like that, be glad that you did not win it. Not a nice bustie at all.

I would assume it a little better in hand. However, I see enough friction on the obverse to keep this coin in the MS61-2 range. I think it could be AU58 if the graders are in a bad mood.
