Is this true? PCGS and the 1982 Cents

3 posts in this topic

I read in the description of an eBay auction once that, unlike NGC, PCGS does NOT distinguish between large and small date or copper and zinc when it comes to the 1982 cents, that they only distinguish between P and D. This seems like a really wierd position for them to take if true since there are 7 different well recognized varieties of 1982 cents. To not atleast state zinc or copper (since you can't do a weight test in the holder) would leave the owner eternally wondering what he actually had in the holder, at least with large and small date coins it can be done by visual inspection. This surprises me even more since PCGS does that whole "position A" and "position B" thing for the Presidential dollars which is even more anal than what NGC does for that series. Also, if true, this would mean that you'd have a very hard time using PCGS 1982 cents in the NGC registry and vice-versa.

So.... is this true or was that seller full of ?
