if you cracked out a modern pcgs/ngc ms/proof 70 coin out of its holder after just buying it from a dealer lets say within a day of getting the coin waht percentage of the price you paid for the coin while it was still in the holder would the dealer buy back the coin at raw??

any thoughts

The modern coins most likely to get a 70 (commems), don't trade based on the Sheldon scale. Because they are readily available, dealers will only pay "BU" prices.

But looking at all high grade pieces, even with an early coin, a classic MS-68 will usually command considerably more money in a slab than it will raw.

I personally would not feel comfortable buying a MS68 only for the fact I dont really know how to really grade coins higher than 65/66. But im sure a raw "MS68 classic" speaks VOLUMES over a raw "MS70 modern"

A PR70 coin being cracked out of a PCGS slab becomes worth the same as an average raw coin. Since they don't give the PR70 grade anymore there is no chance of the coin retaining its original grade.

An MS70 might be different, but most dealers wouldn't pay any premium for it knowing it used to grade 70.
