Question about SBA 1979 "Proof"

7 posts in this topic

Hello.

This is my first post, and I hope I came to the right place.

I don't collect coins, but I have what I always thought was a proof 1979 Susan B. Anthony dollar.

It has a mirror like background. It's a 1979-S.

How would I be able to confirm that it's a proof?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Rj. First off, you should be able to tell from the Uncirculated and the proof. There are three types of S mints for the SBA. There is the Uncirculated that really looks like all of the rest of them. The proofs come in a Type 1 and Type 2 version. These will have a very nice Mirrored field to them and a nice Deep Cameo. Here's a link to the type differences.

This first image is an uncirculated version. Not an S mint but should give you an idea.

This second is a proof version. Not a 79' but still a proof.
