1957 Mint Set Arrived

12 posts in this topic

This is the third 1957 Mint Set I've purchased and the best so far. Super color and originality. Two of the Jefferson's are toned in blue. I've seen this on Proofs but not Business Strikes.

That's a really nice set.

If memory serves the paper flaps on that set are pink, aren't they?

I've never been a big mint set collector, but I found that fact unusual.

Good one Conder101. :golfclap:

That's great! It is evidence that you purchased an original set.

You really have to watch these sets because of substitute coins. These sets have been the source of some high grade slabbed Mint State coins that are now on the market. A replacement coin can be put in the holes, but it often does not match the other pieces in the set. Of course if it does match, it's really not a problem, but finding a matching coin is tough. If the substitute coin is stored in the holder for a number of years (usually 5 or more years), it can acquire toing that will match up with the other pieces.
