I thought this was funny...

...in a sadistic sort of way. From the PCGS spam letter today:

Our Readers Ask

Question: The market seems to be turning sour on Modern coins. My read on it is that the hot areas are still high grade classics, as well as key date coins, but the market for clads, and common 20th century coins and even some pop-tops has cooled off significantly. What are your thoughts?

Answer: I have not seen a slacking of demand for modern coins. There still seems to be a great number of people collecting and putting sets together. What I think is happening is that 20th Century prices have gone up so much that some buyers are looking at the relative value of the 19th century stuff. The 19th century coins are rare enough that a small increase in demand can heat that market up pretty fast. I like the potential of all high grade U.S. coins now... 1652 to 2003. The market just looks very healthy to me.

No, no problems here, why do you ask? It reminds me of the comments of many analysts on CNBC after the Nasdaq's first huge plunge in March/April of 2000!

I read this email too. No problem with moderns!! No mention of price erosion. It seems HRH is still peddling predictions at a furious rate.

For you Star Wars fans, it reminds me of a scene in The Empire Strikes Back when C-3PO was blown to pieces and they are carrying him around in a bag, and Lando asks Han, "Having problems with your droid?" and he responds, "No, no problem, why?"
