Adams MATTE Edge

Has ther ever been a determination of what caused the MATTE edge on some of the John Adams dollar coins? Does anyone considered them an error or variety species? Thanks for the answers. Mark M.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Mark. Have you tried checking on the CONECA website to see if there is any information about it?

I know I saw something about this on the NGC website. Try checking around a bit. If it is anything, it would be an error and not a variety. I actually have one of these myself, although it is only a partial and doesn't go all the way around.
