Thanks, TomB. I thought that you'd like the shilling. smile.gif

My favorite of the lot is the Peru centavo. A dealer in Lima confirmed for me today that they are very scarce in BU and this one is an outstanding example.

Thanks everyone! I noticed something else interesting about the centavo last night. It's alignment is medal where the normal centavo is coinage alignment. The dealer is Peru thinks it could possibly be a pattern, but can't really help any further. Any suggestions on who to contact to try and get more information on it?

Where do you find this stuff??!! 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

You have great taste in coins. The Ireland Shilling is spectacular, but the Peruvian 1 Centavo looks MS-68, by U.S. standards. Geez.

Regarding the possiblity of it being a pattern, you could try to contact to Krause. The go to a lot of the bigger shows in the Mid West. If they cannot help you, they are connected with the respective specialists for all of the different countries.

I found an undocumented overdate on a Mexican gold 20 Peso coin two years ago and they were very, very helpful. In fact, I let them take the coin to their office for research and they added it to the latest edition of the catalog. It's the 1921/10 variety. In the 2003 edition, it does not have a value stated and could possibly be unique. Unfortunately, my partner sold it for as gold bullion last year (true story) foreheadslap.gif

Hi Dennis! I just got lucky. I stopped by a show while I was in Portland, OR last weekend and met a friendly dealer. We talked for a while I was going through the boxes he had out and I gave him my contact info because he thought he might be able to find some of the tough Canadian I'm looking for. When I finished looking through the boxes (I think I had only pulled two coins) he went back and got another box that he had just gone through, but hadn't offered to anyone yet. That's where most of these came from. The best part of the story was that I didn't have enough cash on me to cover all of the coins I had pulled and my checkbook was back at the hotel (he didn't take cards either). I was going to ask him to hold the coins with a deposit while I ran and got my checkbook. He just handed me the coins with a business card and said to mail him a check for the balance! 893whatthe.gif Now I'm wondering what else was in that box that I missed...

Thanks for the Krause idea. I'll look into that. Sorry to hear about your Mexican misadventure. James didn't do that, did he? crazy.gif

Checking Jeff Zarit's cataloge from the Horace Flatt sale, there were two 1864 centavo trial strikes offered. The brown one is listed at $200 and the red one for $289. You might try contacting Horace Flatt directly. His work # is 972-524-0321.
