Does anyone collect Casino silver tokens?

11 posts in this topic

I won a few of these in a slot machine in Lake Tahoe, Nev. back in 2000. I gave some away to family and I still have three of these left. I was wondering if anyone else collects these? This one weighs 37.68g of .999 silver. $10 token. I forgot to mention also that the fields are mirrored like proofs and about the size of an SAE.

Thanks Richard. I also have a couple of the big $1 brass ones. One from treasure Island in Las Vegas and another from the airport there when I visited back in 97'.

Bobby, there are people who collect them in the Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club. I can only think of one dealer offhand, and he is Andy Hughes in Las Vegas. www.nevadacasinochips.com There is also Pete & Chantal Rizzo, but I can't remember their website. If you search casino chips, you will probably come up with quite a few sites that can give you an idea of their approximate value.

I have 56 of them from Slots-A-Fun and the Stardust. The ones from Slots-A-Fun are the "Nevada Wildlife" Series (bald eagle, gray wolf, desert tortoise, bighorn sheep, gila monster and mountain bluebird) and the "Valley of Fire". For collectors, the wildlife series sell in the $13-$18 range and the "Valley of Fire", which is harder to get, sells for about $40-$45. I'm holding on to the Stardust gaming tokens for now because it was torn down earlier this year.

However, if you try to sell them to a dealer, you will only get about $8-$9 each for them. I know they are all .999 fine silver with a brass outer ring, but I don't know the exact weight of the silver content.

Thanks Chris. I'm not loooking to sell them, just posting them. Also , you mention and outer brass ring on these. I have taken these out of the airtite and it looks to me that the gold color is the same composition. I have tapped both the inside silver and the outside gold color with a piece a metal very lightly. Both gave me the same sound.

I still have a small collection of these saved from different places.

A lot of places had quarter slots with these as the prize.

The machines were set a bit loose as an advertising deal but later turned to a money maker for the location. You could cash them for the $10 or take them home. There was a larger size of these as well. I'm thinking they were $20 or $25.

I remember trying to catch them with my hand before they hit the tray.

The holder would sometimes break open.

Fun stuff :)
