Thanks for the compliment, I thought it was a nice coin too.

Gunny; the toning on your dime is magnificent. Many of the Barbers tone up very nicely and yours is one of them. Monster eye appeal!

That's why I got it. I don't even collect Barber Dimes, but had to have this one.

Gunny,

The Dimes and the Quarters seem to tone up better than the Halves -

mainly because I think many Half collectors kept dipping their coins

because they were of the misconception that buyers liked "shiny coins".

:makepoint:

My fledgling collection of a Date Set of Dimes only has vividly toned coins.

I went shopping thru Heritages' Make an Offer Program. I spotted this

Half to upgrade my VF 25 [ sorry, its already sold ] ... This coin is now

mine - and I should have it by mid November.

The other day, I added a really attractive

1912-D Dime in MS - which is scheduled

for my MS Date Set.

I also threw in a reasonable bid on another 1912-D -

but in AU 58 - and forgot about it because of the MS one.

Well, here is my newp 12-D Dime... Images are weak -

but you get the idea...

Spent an enjoyable time talking Barbers with my friend Len Rizzo last night

and he mentioned he was going to the local, show in Ft Lauderdale on Sunday

and I remembered that there was a local show on the Gulf side of Florida today.

I got a late start but arrived in Ft Myers at Noon, walked in the show and immediately

ran into a dealer who I do like - Rick DeSantis. It took me all of three seconds to

spot a Barber Dime I needed - albeit a bit too blast white for my tastes - but bought it

all the same. It's a common date, but I still needed it, regardless. I'll get images up

soon enough.

I looked over Rick's Barber Quarter inventory and he had quite a few really choice

collector grades as well as a smattering of MS 64's in PC holders. I mentioned that

Len was going to be in the Ft Lauderdale show and so was Rick. I am sure they will

see each other.

After exchanging pleasantries with Rick, I moved over a couple of tables as he was

getting quite a few customers. I spotted a guy in his early 40's with his son at the table

next to me, and asked if he had any certified Barbers, not many he said, but I spotted

a lock XF 45 - raw - 1903-O Half Dollar. It has the tiniest of rim bumps over "T" in Trust.

I don't care if it gets into a Genuine holder. For what I paid for the coin, I can send it in

Express 5 day - have it come back in a details holder - and still triple my money. The coin

has a cameo effect, smokey rims and portrait outline, as well as the Reverse around the

Eagle and the lettering and thruout the stars.

Couldn't be more pleased. If it didn't have that miniscule

rim bump, it would grade hands down XF 45. On a good day,

an AU 50 - 53.

Images forthcoming.

Happy hunting everyone !!

Very attractive 1912-D - looks to be a higher grade, IMHO.

Although I did not need this coin for the collection,

I had to buy it because of the color - love at first sight:

EDIT:

Anyone pick up any Barbers on the Stack's Bowers' Internet Only Auction

which closed this evening at 6:00 PM - Eastern Standard Time ?

I won 7 of my 9 bids. :cloud9:

Had nine bids in at Stack's Bowers recent Internet Only Auction.

I thought I had won only 7 of the 9 - but I was emailed that I had

won all nine lots of Barber Dimes:

Dogstar - keep adding quality coins like that you'll have a great collection.

That 1892-O Ty. 1 is one of the nicest I have ever seen - almost as nice as

the one Broadstruck bought not too long ago - unless, of course, he sold it to you !! lol.

I was surfing eBay earlier today and stumbled across a nice variety

Half Dollar - that I used to own in PCGS 58 - that sold last year at

the 2011 Chicago ANA for a ridiculous amount of money ... I shouldn't

complain, really.

Well, as I had decided to not do varieties in my latest set of Halves,

I have been after XF/AU's in the newer set. This AU showed up and

I just couldn't resist...

First - let me apologise [ again ] for the size of the images ...
