What is the strap on a 52 canadian nickel?

Do you mean 1953? That's what you have pictured.

With/without strap refers to the shoulder strap on HRH Elizabeth II's gown. It is also called Shoulder Fold/No Shoulder Fold. Your picture shows a "with" variety.

Near/Far Maple Leafs refers to the distance from the rim the ML is. Near is close to the rim, Far is further away from the rim. Yours is a near. Sorry!

Just FYI, the shoulder, no shoulder obverse varieties also apply to the other coinage of 1953 including he penny, dime, quarter, fifty cent and dollar coins. The original relief model of this was made too high with the result of the first coins having the week two lines on the shoulder (which is actually a fold in her gown). Later in 1952 the mint corrected the the oberse design and therefore produced the with shoulder variety as originally intended. Each denomination has other identifiers to help determine if it is no shoulder or not, since sometimes it is very difficult to determine is it is in fact no shoulder or just wear?

Also the no shoulder obverse was also used to mint some of the 1954 cents for the Proof-like sets and a small amount of 1955 cents for circulation. These 1955 NSF cents can be quite valuable in relation all the others. About $1000.00 for an MS 60.
