What was the main reason for issuing Continental Currency in 1775?

and that

 

"the twelve [[Articles of Confederation|] colonies [Georgia was not then represented] be pledged for the redemption of the bills of credit now directed to be emitted."

These were used to finance the revolutionary war. This was currency that was issued by Congress as bills of credit, was given to the Twelve Colonies. I think it was like giving them a credit card and payments were paid back to the Government in quarterly installments.

To raise money for the revolution effort and to encourage the colonies to fight the British using the symbology Benjamin Franklin printed on the notes.
