8 escudos melt for about $500. It would be helpful to know country and mintmark to give a better idea of rarity since 8 escudos were minted throughout latin american in 1805. The mexico city issues are worth about $50 to $100 over melt in strict VF condition.

The coin in the link is from Chile.

 

S= Santiago mint

FJ= mintmaster's initials

 

The grade is a proper VF at best.

 

This particular coin is worth about $50 over melt retail. Chilean gold has a smaller collector base than Mexico.
