  1. You should go to a local coin shop and see what they have. Spend some money each time you go. They might act like snobs at first but get to know them. For every coin they have on display they have millions more not out. They are much cheaper then the antique store I'm sure. Lots of more expensive ones of course. Spend money each time you go and they will pull out stuff not shown. Anyways you can get lots of stuff and it's not that expensive. Help out your local coin shop and they will help you.
  2. I was looking through my merc junk silver. Found a couple 1945 micro s' but that's it so far.
  3. I don't spend much time looking for varieties but is this the 1941 D DDO Variety?
  4. Just wondering. What grade range do you like to keep your Franklin's in?
  5. 1030 now. That is amazing by the way. That must have taken a ton of work.
  6. I got it I think. 92 can be p or d close am. 98 99 2000 must be a p and the one to look for is wide.
  7. The 92, 98, 99 and 2000 penny the rare one is the close AM? Or are they different? 92 close and others wide one is rare?
  8. Jeez not this again. Do you have the bill as well? I got one to sell you if you want another. It came with a bill.
  9. Here is a MS65. I don't think it looks better then this one.
  10. How do you find uncirulated coins though? To find a uncirculated coin by roll hunting would be to find a roll such as this one from bank where all the coins have the same date and mint mark on it right? The coins are very clean but they are not perfect that's for sure. How to get a true uncirculated coin? If you find a very very clean coin in a mixed date roll that would be a AU coin right? On one of these blue and white label rolls the nickel on top has the ring of death and when I opened one of the rolls it had a finger print on a nickel. In the roll I did open up I found maybe 3 or 4 that were in excellent unc shape I would think. The rest had a ding or rim scrape. Can you get a true Unc coin from the bank in rolls? If you buy a unc set some of the same problems sometimes are on them. I guess that is the hard part of coin collecting. There is really only a small number of truly perfect coins for so many of the years coins. I'm looking at my unc sets through the 90's In the sets the coins are not separated in the envelope. I got unc sets up to 1995 at the moment. Recently I bought a big batch of them for cheap and replaced some of my sets and sold the others off. They are sealed in the plastic but they do rub against each other. When I buy a good unc set I make sure the coins have something in between the p and d sets. I hope I explained myself good enough to understand. Question is can you get a unc coin from bank? I have split up sets for my dansco books. I did buy what I think are Unc nickels to get the 2005 - 2010 ones that came from rolls.
  11. The microscope was a waste of money. Wish I had listened to you guys. I was hoping to find a few varieties but haven't yet. I would have been better off buying a nice $50 coin instead.
  12. I believe this came out with the bicentennial. It is a real replica. And it also came with a $20 bill. It's probably 40 or 50 years old. I guess that could be generations. But it's still a replica.
  13. Go to your local coin shop and buy some coins. Take cash and $20 will get you a nice coin or two. Make friends and don't be afraid to ask questions. In Change I have found a W Quarter worth about $5. A few wheat pennies worth about .02 each. 10 $2 bills in numerical order worth $2 each but otherwise have not found anything in change that I have kept. I have found some 1940's and 1950's nickels roll hunting and a few silver nickels. I have found 60 or so silver dimes from the change machine. If you get the word out to your friends and family that you are a coin collector you could get some cool things. I got a couple of morgans and a few silver half dollars that way. My father gave me his nickel dansco book as well as his dansco penny book. Did you find error coins or variety coins? I found two nickels in change that were off center but not by much. I do have a coin magnifier but all I see are very dirty coins. I would have been better off just buying a couple of good coins from the coin shop vs buying that. Hanging out at the coin shop a few times a week did get me to buy some things from someone that brought things in to sell that the shop didn't want. A big load of Unc and proof sets. Face value of the coins were over $80 I got them for $50. Plus there was $30 of silver in there as well. Go to your local coin shop. Spend some money there and they will help you out as well. Just be sure to take cash when you do go. No credit cards.
  14. why does everyone think they have a million dollar penny? I have been coming here for maybe a year and I lost count how many people think they have "that" penny.
  15. The 1955 flat sells for a good amount. You have any of the 1940's? Just wondering what Unc and proofs sets do you have in your collection? One other question if a coin roll you get at bank in a white and blue roll is all the same. For example 2023 D Nickels would these be considered uncirculated?
  16. On this coin what is grime vs tarnish? To me it looks like grime mostly. As a rookie I would say at one time it was cleaned by the lines on the left side of the front and the right side of back. This site should have little tests to do to get better at self grading. Sure you need the coin in hand to really do it right but a good picture you can tell lots about a coin. It would be kind of fun to see how good you might get
  17. Though the proofs are far different then the P &D's
  18. I bought a few a bit ago. When those things get up in the really high 69 or 70 they are very expensive. These were in the $50 range. The prices went from $50 for these to like $500 in 69 or 70. 1950D ms64fbl cost me $60 and 53d ms65fbl cost $80. The FBL's on these might look a bit better then mine do.
  19. It's the 1951 proof set? At the store when they bought them they opened the 1953 one and it looked really good. The 1955 flat pack sells for lots. Yours is very nice.
  20. I've used my scope a million times and haven't seen anything but dirt. Most every coin has damage looking at with a microscope. I haven't seen a variety yet. Maybe I need to study the variety pages more.
