  1. Fun Newps everyone! :applause:

    ... but for a sawbuck I can't complain! ...

After doing charades last night with my daughters and their boyfriends (all 4 of them are twenty-somethings) I was surprised to learn that no one knew the song, "Swannee River".

I think your sawbuck term might also fall in that category these days. FWIW here's part of the "Urban Dictionary" definition of sawbucks...

"Since 1985 or so, the term has referred to a 10-dollar "bag" (actual bag or any kind of package) of any street drug (heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana, etc.)."

So, were you trading one addiction to fill another? ;)

  2. Nice looking coins everyone! :applause:

I do NOT have a problem with the Walker. Lettered toning (or, more accurately, lack of toning) is an uncommon form of toning that does occur in certain albums, most notably Whitman coin albums. Obviously ANY form of toning is a personal call as to attractiveness etc. I personally enjoy lettered toning. Here's a couple of mine...

  3. It is NGC's product, and they can do whatever they want. Along those lines, they can do the same with these boards. HOWEVER...

NGC thinks that it is going to encourage us to buy more NGC graded coins. It's not going work with me. I buy the coins I like at the prices that are fair.

I have defended NGC against the "PCGS only crowd" for years, and I feel betrayed. I have enjoyed the NGC registry and have spent many hours to make my sets as attractive and educational as I could.

In the past NGC showed that its leadership was far more open minded than the executives at PCGS...

You have lost my voice, Mr. Salzberg. I will NOT... be going... out of my way to defend your product again.... This decision stinks, and if you have any sense, you will rescind it

    +1

  4. It's a PITA to me. I don't significantly use the PCGS Registry specifically because they don't accept NGC coins. All of my coins are on the NGC Registry, and of those roughly 2/3 are in PCGS slabs. I have a long way to go on my Type Set, and I strongly suspect I'll be buying coins in both major TPG's slabs.

As the saying goes, I buy the coin and not the holder, and NGC slabs have plenty of well graded coins (of which I feel ZERO need to reslab them in PCGS plastic, although I may send in the more valuable ones for CAC before selling them).

    ARGGGHHHHH!!!

What I think is implied in Mark's statement is that NGC slabs are cracked out, sent for crossover to PCGS, and re-entered in the NGC registry at a higher grade. I accept his reasoning and their decision to granfather older PCGS coins already in the registry. This I think will effectively level the playing field between the two registries. It will also cause an NGC registry participant to submit raw and crossover coins to NGC for grading rather than to PCGS for later entry into NGC's registry. This then is a business decision that makes perfect sense.

While I have made thousands of dollars off of getting NGC slabbed coins to upgrade over at PCGS, I think the majority (or at least a large minority) of higher valued coins that are slabbed at NGC will not cross at grade at PCGS, much less upgrade. You are welcome to prove me wrong by taking a representative selection (NOT a handpicked selection) and attempting to crossover.

It seems to me that IN GENERAL a higher value coin is worth more in a PCGS slab than in an NGC slab. Are there people who crack PCGS slabs and send them to NGC for crossover? Sure! However, IMO, the vast majority of crack outs are from people attempting to go from NGC to PCGS slabs.
