    Still not convinced?

Definitely not. I respect your desire and hope for being lucky enough to have managed to have one land in your lap, I have to say that I don’t believe you have one my friend and if you do, it certainly isn’t the one you are claiming is one.

All coins are 1964 Kennedy half dollar coins but the coin on top is the 1964 SMS Special Strike and the 2 on bottom are the regular business strike coins.

Of the three coins posted, you’d have a better chance at claiming the one on the bottom left is a SMS than the one on the top (even though I don’t think any of them are. As a matter of fact I can tell you for a fact none of them are). The 1964 SMS has a satin like appearance with die polishing marks, is non reflective, lacks contact marks and the strike is very sharp with very clear details on both sides as well as a crisp and sharp squared rim. There is also a defect on the crosslet of the 4 on all but 1 of the known examples (which is the SP69).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but good luck on your grading. Maybe we’re all wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️

You know, Its been a while since Ive seen a thread from a new collector asking if their 64 Kennedy was a SMS. I remember Ratzie 33 was finding them at least once a week. lol. Im suprised we havent seen any of those in a while. i would love to read about some real 64 SMS sets sometime in the near future. Ill never own any in my lifetime but still interesting learning a little about them. I do plan on putting together some cameo sets in 65 66 67.  Ive done close to having the 67 done in MS67 cameo. Only got the dreaded cent left to get. Its gonna be a tough one in ms67 cameo. Ive seen a few out there but they get a little pricey. Ill get the ole girl eventually.

If I find any like you’re looking for would you like me to let you know? If so shoot me a PM. I have an obsession with SMS set and I have quite a few of each. Some of them are, meh… but others are like, daaaaaang!

  3. The good news is too, you can always change it once you get a better hang of what you’re doing. You can also check out how other collectors do their registries and modify it to suit your needs. I’m not brand new but but I’m still learning too. There’s a ton of information out there for sure!

Cool. Thank You. Ive never found real die crack b4. I will save. Thank you very much.

Honestly I don’t think it is a cracked die. To me it looks more like what would have been a clipped Planchet but for some reason it didn’t get fully clipped. Just my thought.

That said, if you are interested in selling it you can always look at posting it on eBAY or one of the various groups on Facebook. Some people just have a thing for oddities and while you probably won’t see several thousand dollars (but you never know!!), you could still turn a decent profit. $10, $20, $30… who knows!?! But not bad for a quarter that normally would only get you $.25.

At the end of the day it’s really up to you. If it was my coin, honestly?!I would keep it just because it’s pretty dang cool and I’ve never seen one with an issue like that.

  5. Oh my goodness, I did not even see that you had responded, I am so sorry! That’s awesome that you are so willing to help other collectors, myself included, with your knowledge and expertise! I know I can only speak for myself but I can definitely very much appreciated! I do try to keep myself informed and definitely don’t speak to anything unless I know for a fact what I am saying in factual, obviously wouldn’t want to give anyone false or misleading information, and try to help others as well. Unfortunately, outside of having a pretty darn good eye for picking coins, I don’t get to help as much as I would like to someday!

It’s a difficult hobby, to say the least, just in the sense that the amount of information out there is massive, just getting the basics down is a lot! That being said, and I’m sure you would agree, once you get bit by the numismatic bug it’s definitely a very addictive hobby!

I definitely appreciate your thoughts and feedback and will hopefully get the opportunity to pick your brain again at some point. You are very knowledgeable and it’s not always easy to find an unbiased, reliable and honest opinion it seems.

Thank you again for your time and insight, it really is appreciated! Also my apologies once more for the delay in responding! Take care and have a wonderful day!

  6. Nice! We’re in Marana just outside of Tucson! I actually have a second Booker T, this one isn’t toned though. I quite think it is under graded myself. Curious, do you have a shop in Phoenix? I ask because it seems to be very difficult to find people who are knowledgeable and not trying to rip me off! We go to the valley somewhat regularly so I’d be happy to swing in with any coin related purchases/sales/questions etc. I’d rather give my business to a trustworthy source than somewhere I settled for because it was the best option at the time. 7F3B82A9-49C1-4820-B97B-852E0B933A68.thumb.jpeg.383d7b16d51e9b95fa3ddd183c3641bd.jpegB04A3F11-5789-48CD-8D59-4E63BD7F5626.thumb.jpeg.86f91dd5205930f3f35e3780305077ee.jpeg7F3B82A9-49C1-4820-B97B-852E0B933A68.thumb.jpeg.383d7b16d51e9b95fa3ddd183c3641bd.jpeg

  7. Thank you so much for that information, I really appreciate it and am quite happy that I decided to go ahead and post here! I don’t think I will be considering HA or SB or giving them my future business due to the response I got from them and the fact that I now feel as though they are both pretty sheisty. That said, I have yet to hear anything negative about GC and will definitely be reaching out to them for consideration before I put this back in my personal collection.

If I decide to go another route though, you will be the first to know! Thank you again, I truly appreciate your help and the wonderfully detailed and knowledgeable response you provided! I’ll definitely be in touch, have a great day!

  8. Good morning!

I have seen a few people with quite an extensive collection of 50c pieces and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on selling this coin. I know there’s not anything in a higher grade and it doesn’t look like it has ever been to auction, would love any suggestions or if someone is looking for it to add to their collection I’d be open to reasonable offers.
