  1. Thank you guys for all your help on this I appreciate it. I like this forum a lot although PCGS is a better fit for me. I don't know why and no offense to anyone here. It just seems to be buzzing with activity and I really don't understand why.
  2. I have a bunch of auction catalogs as well as reading auction lot description. I believe a ton of information can be extrapolated from them. BTW I demand nothing of anyone ever especially amongst fellow collectors. Why be so pompous. That's a major turn off and likely is part of what thins the crowd. Nonetheless we must tolerate others dispositions if we are to be civil.
  3. Hoghead(sorry) That's a sad but bittersweet story. I appreciate your sharing it with us!
  4. Thank you for that information. I have educated myself on this not that I want to sound like I don't appreciate it. It may help others who read this as well. I basically want to know about anicoins though if possible.
  5. Can you provide any information about anicoins slabs?
  6. This is my new addition to my Oregon Trail set which I will build over time. It's a beauty to behold. I feel so lucky to have it.
  7. How about this.....when I get it I will polish it up and we will see if it's got a shot at an upgrade!
  8. I never thought of doing that. It's something I am very good at. I have all of the right stuff. Just think "old headlight restoration ". What a great idea!
  9. Here you go. BTW this is the end of the road for this slab. It's coming out the day I get regardless of an upgrade. This holder's to dam ugly.
  10. I think it was a good buy and something I won't need to upgrade for my type set.
  11. In addition to collecting the bust coin series I am fond of walking liberty halves. I purchased this coin yesterday. I couldn't resist. It's currently in an OGH. I will reveal the grade later. I believe the holder is very scratched up and difficult to see the coin clearly so I'm hoping it's even nicer than it's current grade. Please tell me your opinion of its grade. I'm doing this for fun so please be kind.
  12. Merry Christmas to this coin community.
  13. I am seeing that many are worth $1-$5 as you said. I am coming across a few good ones though. Straits Settlements 1891&1894 10C Plus I have a good 30 ancient silver, brass and copper coins. All of them are in the $50 and up range. I bought the lot for fun. I hope to calculate my cost out of it and trade it or sell it all to a dealer for US coins or a coin but who knows there could be a winner in here. They look very old. I would guess put away in the early 70's. I have at least 1000 coins and they are all labeled so yes it helps. Does anyone here like ancient coins? Let me know I will be glad to sell them or trade them for US.
  14. Here are a few more images. I'm going to start by separating them into ancient coins, 1700's and 1800's then countries. Here are a few more images. If you spot anything good from my lousy pictures please let me know. I will take better images in time. I just opened up the package.
  15. Can someone offer a resource to sort these out and determine value. I'll post images as I go through this but it's going to take a while I believe there is about 1000 envelopes with old coins from all over the world. Lots of ancient coins as well. This will be a lot of fun!
  16. Really nice coins guys the toning is just superb. The ones posted so far are very attractive.I agree with you about the commemoratives I obviously really like the Oregon Trail, Lafayette and Stone Mountain. A lot of them are just blah but how can you not really enjoy that indian and covered wagon it's just amazing in my opinion!
  17. I have been looking at a lot of the 50c commemoratives for a while now and decided to purchase two after much contemplation. I really want to buy a nice original Lafayette but they seem to be few and far between. I wonder why. Regardless this is with no doubt my favorite and it is my intention to complete an entire date set in high grade, Oregon Trail.
  18. They made so many medals and tokens during that era. Your could even be unique but they don't bring a huge premium. I have a bunch of them I won at an auction in the past. I do suggest Heritage Auctions or Stacks Bowers they have sold just about anything you can think of. Good luck with your research and btw very cool medal!
  19. That's a good point. I also us Offer Up for stuff. I haven't tried coins but I will. Who knows maybe I will meet another collector and trade. I am focusing on early silver coins from bust series to walking liberty halves, bust quarters to standing liberty and my favorite coin of all the mercury dime. That's it for now. So if you know someone who might want this group I can take images of the other coins and I'll be happy to pass them on to be enjoyed!
  20. Thank you for being helpful. I must admit that this is not really my area of collecting. I want to learn so I will check those links out. As for this group of 40 large cents they are not for my collection. It's either of to ebaY or someone who wants them. Im not interested im making money on them. They do seem to do okay on ebay though. Not big money but I'm comfortable.
  21. It was a toss up. I'm still learning but learning well. I joined a local coin club so I will enjoy this hobby the way it should be, for the enjoyment of learning and collecting. I have made several purchases I feel good about. I spent some serious money but I do know as with any hobby or collection we need to buy the best we can afford except for the occasional fluke like this. I'm not concerned I see no downside and even if there were I guarantee when I meet her next week with her silver coins I will have a better idea of what I'm doing. She told me they were all from the same Era as the large cents so I'm hoping to see some bust dimes, quarters and halves and possibly others. I hope I'm right!
  22. 1839 is a silly head(I think) 1840 I believe is a small date. I want to me tion that I didn't mind taking a shot and being fair to this person. It was 40 large cents and she would have taken a low offer im sure but I wouldn't have felt good about it. I think it was a win/win. Although as I was leaving she was banging away on those dam scratch tickets. She has my telephone number and told me she will call me next week. She has lots more coins she told me. They were her husband who passed on and she has no use for them. So who knows maybe I can buy something nice for a fair price. BTW thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm not expecting any major home runs here. I'd be happy to pass them all on to a collector of this type. I wasn't about to say "no thanks".
  23. Something is odd about this coin. It has absolutely no sign of having ever said "one cent". Even under high magnification. It also has some graffiti? Although one of the letters appears to be raised like a die Crack type of effect its in the shape of an A almost not carved into the copper like a couple of the other letters you see. I'll take some images under magnification just for kicks.
