  1. Thanks JustBob! I like that the edges are so distinct. Many I’ve seen seem really worn around the edges.
  2. Have this 1801 and I believe that it is an S-224 variety and possibly very early die state, as it is void of die cracks and rim breaks. From comparing graded coins and auctions, it appears to be VF-XF. Obv has full edge detail and Rev. edge Is almost full. Obv. surface has slight granularity and rev. is smooth. Almost no surface dents or nicks or edge damage. Thoughts from more experienced eyes wanted. Thanks!
  3. Mohawk and Oldhoopster are correct I think. The marks do seem to align with eagle head and scroll from reverse. Does this add any value to the coin?
  4. Fenntucky, here are some other pics. Thx for reply!
  5. Sorting thru Dads collection and found this 1827 5/10 Real. I understand most were overstruck on decimos and this appears to have been. Thoughts on grade and value? Thanks!
  6. Still sorting thru Dads old collection and found this 1947/51 Spain Peseta. Looks like maybe it was oversruck on another coin or possibly a strike through. Look below neck line. Could not research any other examples. Thoughts?
  7. JKK, true! I forgot they minted them through 1916. Any idea of what kind of premium the error could bring?
  8. It’s an 1894E pfennig, according to my fathers notes. Suppose it could be a 1904 as the 4 is the only number in the date that is visible, and that coin was minted for those two years.
  9. Sorting thru inherited collection from my father and want to know if this coin is a mint error or after mint damage? If so, a possible value?
  10. I have another coin I’m curious about. It’s a 1821 R Brazil 40 Reis with about 20% missing with a straight cut. I’ll post in a new thread.
  11. Thanks for the responses! Any recommendations on people or dealers that specialize in mint errors?
  12. Still sorting through my fathers collection that I inherited about 15 years ago, and have finally been going through in the last few months. I have this 1894 E 1 pfennig which catalog values at around $70 for normal coin. Wondering what kind of value this error adds? Can’t locate any similar coins in my research. Any thought? Thanks

  14. Thanks to all! Obviously, there is a lot more to learn about this hobby and the coins in my fathers collection.
  15. Coinbuf and JustBob thanks again for your response. What type of acid and for what reason would someone do that to a coin? Especially a FYI?
  16. Bob, thanks for your response. It is a much thinner planchet and smaller in diameter than a normal penny as shown in third photo.
  17. I inherited my fathers collection about 15 years ago. Started going through it and educating myself on it contents about six months ago. There is what looks to be an 1859 Indian Head penny that was possibly struck on a dime planchet. It weighs 1.6 grams. Haven’t seen any similar error coins in my research. Any help would be appreciated.
