  1. Wasn’t it the “Transitional” Silver-Clad thing where they had no mint marks to show the diff? After all, NGC & PCGS did NOT exist in the 1960’s. Shucks, if they had, I’d have a truckload of graded coins. 🤣
  2. I’ve concluded at least to this juncture in time that an “SP” coin has a high luster almost chrome like finish unlike a Cameo. I could be wrong but my SP Canadian Griffon almost put my eye out for brilliance when I gazed upon it first time. Dang, that’s a shiny one👍
  3. I agree. However, not all of the listing prices are outdated. Just some. I’ve found coins that have prices dating to 2014. True, some coins don’t change much, but if we coin snoopers are going to make a C👀L purchase, show me not da money, show me the real value! Happy New Year E’Body! 🥳🥳🥳
  4. Does anyone know how to tell if a holder has been tampered with? I recently bought a coin that appears to have been opened and the coin switched. Are NGC holders “Tamper Proof?”
  5. Coinbuf, If you go to my member listings you can view a few of my “SP” and SMS coins. I looked up “Specimen” coins on a few internet chat boards…eh, no one seemed to know. One “poster” suggested ‘SP’ was a moniker used by NGC and ‘SMS’ was used by PCGS. However, I have SMS Kennedy halves so dat ain’t true. It appears SMS we’re ‘Transitional.’
  6. Well, if it’s meaningless then why do I have it printed on an NGC label?
  7. Yes, I know that much, but I was generally wondering about its purpose. Do you know why they were minted?
  8. Ah, thank you. Just the answer I was looking for. Happy New Year!🥳
  9. Where would a B.U. grade coin fall in the realm of the NGC price guide? For example would they be XF, AU50, AU58 or do B.U. Coins start about MS-60?
  10. Ok, got it. So it’s kinda like a “goof-up” coin at the mint. Say a ‘78 Morgan with a ‘79 reverse for example.
  11. Yes, I know about the change in silver to clad. Is T/R a coin with one side different, say a clad layer on only one side of a 90% silver? Is that possible?
  12. So, does say "Rainbow" toning diminish the value of a coin?
  13. What causes some coins to “Tarnish” (discolor) while some coins remain brilliant ?
  14. Hey All, I did not know that I’d get so many responses. That was real good info. My guess…Gem of a question??
  15. The fog has cleared. Thank you all. p.s. I wouldn’t take for gospel anything grade level wise attached by a dealer selling a raw or ungraded coin. Only graded coins tell the story.
  16. So, just to be clear, “Gem” is a term associated mostly with the “MS” grouping of coins, but not usually “Proof” ones? I do have “PF” 67, 68 & 69 coins, so is it safe to say these are “Gem Proofs” or would that be silly? (asking for a friend just in case it turns out to be a dumb question🤣)
  17. Thanks Lem! That was a good read. However, the article did not discuss PROOF coins.
  18. What is the difference between a Gem coin and say a “B.U.” one? Is the Gem a Proof coin and the B.U. an M.S. strike?
  19. What is the difference between a Gem coin and say a “B.U.” one? Is the Gem a Proof coin and the B.U. an M.S. strike?
  20. Noooo! I dived deep enough in this new coin “Rollin” thing. Great info!🧐
