Thanks folks, that's an interesting note about the error caused by the dies clashing. I've found a few errors in just about every box I've gone through I hold on to the interesting ones and put the rest back. The most interesting I've found so far is a 2007 nickel with an extra 0 and a Bicentennial quarter missing a 7 in 1776.

I just started coin roll hunting about a month ago and so far I've found the Lowell and San Antonio mission (W) quarters, I started out thinking they'd be somewhat easy to come across but I was wrong about that but I enjoy going through coin rolls becasue you never know what your going to find and at the end of the day its a hobby that doesn't cost much.

Thanks for the insight everyone. I've found a few interesting minor errors since I've started coin roll hunting and I agree with everyone I've looked around ebay (I know, I know, fleabay) and sights like coinsforsale.com and have come to realize that these coins are interesting when found but rarely worth the effort it takes to sell them. The ones I've found I plan on holding onto, I like looking through quarters becasue of the numerous new errors associated with the state pennies and I like to look for the west point mint quarters, so far I've found the Lowell and San Antonio. I went through an entire box of quarters today ands only found one west point quarter.

I agree hoopster, do you think it would do okay on coinsforsale.com?

I'd agree but its odd how the surrounding numbers are in such good shape.

Yes that's where I'm referring to on the coin, thanks GBrad. Another person commented that this is where the coin took a hit. I asked them what they meant but haven't heard anything back yet. Any idea what they might mean? I haven't seen one of these quarters with this kind of damage yet, but I'm no quarter expert. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Yeah I've got to use a different light under my camera the one that came with it is super bright.

Don't know why the coin looks worn and the zeros are so well formed. But when I look closely at it, it looks like the off zero is sunk underneath the third zero.

Thanks a lot folks I appreciate the info, I'll definitely email Mr. Wexler.

1966 Gagged Washington Quarter. PMD or strike through?
in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions

Found this 1966 quarter roll hunting and I'm trying to figure out whether its PMD or if it a strike through which happened during production. Its odd becasue other than circulation damage there doesn't seem to be any indication that the impression was made with a vice or anything. the impression is not flat it has ridges in it so its pretty odd. Any insight would be welcomed.
