  1. 1. I never said I'd never post about your micrographs. Sometimes, the closeup picture is all we need. On your toning threads, the micrographs are insufficient and completely inadequate. On this thread, a picture of the rim is sufficient to say I don't know what's going on. 2. The collar would affect the reeding on the edge. It would not affect the rim, as shown in your picture. The rim is struck by the die, not the collar. 3. If you have other pictures of other coins with this same effect, that would be very helpful. As I mentioned above, I've not seen this particular effect, but more pictures may help.
  2. According to Dena and Ali.E, the "Report Post" function is currently not working properly. If you reported that thread, it didn't do any good. Just another one of the amazing technological marvels associated with the wonderful forum upgrade a few years ago... how many other "features" don't work? I don't fault Dena, she's not a tech-person. I just wish they had a tech-person to remake these forums into something useable. Until Dena (or someone else) announces the report post function is actually working, please send PM's directly to an admin. The only way I got those threads shut down was to send a (maybe, possibly, overly-strongly worded) PM to them and ask why they hadn't shut it down yet. One of the other major problems here is that there is no consistent moderation. Dena has assured me that she is talking to management about having someone browse these boards on a more consistent basis and take action in a more timely manner. The incident in question took 3-4 days to resolve, which on almost any other major forum would have been resolved in minutes (hours, at the most). My intention in this post is not to call Dena out at all - in my years here, she's been consistently the most helpful person interacting with the community. My intention here is to relay what she's told me, and hold NGC (corporate) accountable for actions to improve this forum.
  3. That is actually a really interesting observation. I've noticed the price for the Graham book on Reeded Edge Half varieties has soared. Why do you think that is? Book prices soar, but values for the coins they describe aren't really affected? Is it for the cherrypicker environment?
  4. Dena posted a strongly worded warning here: This post was necessary after a couple of members started posting Nazi memes. When I asked them to stop, one of the members decided to equate me and a couple other members to the KKK, and starting posting KKK medals and tokens, saying that they perfectly fit my description. These threads have obviously been removed. Thanks, Boss. I appreciate your support. Over the years, you've been a consistent, positive voice in this community, and I appreciate that. Dude. You've literally been banned from other forums because your behavior is so offensive. All I've done on this forum is call you out on your nonsense, and publicly call for everyone to ignore you because of it. The fact that not everyone has ignored you, that you still continue to post, and that others respond to you, is one of the reasons this forum is going downhill. I had you on ignore on Cointalk until you were banned, and then you came to infect the only place that wouldn't ban you. Try your schtick on PCGS (if you aren't banned there) and see how long you last. NGC has absolutely the most lax moderation in the history of coin forums. The only reason you aren't banned here is because there is literally no moderation. If you find me annoying, can you even comprehend how annoying I find you? Or Quintus Arrius? Or ProfHaroldHill? I'd bet 50% of posts in the past week are from the three of you, and not a single useful thing has been typed between the lot of you.
  5. I haven't watched it. I don't have his book, either. I have interacted with Rick Snow at shows, however. He sold me one of the prizes of my collection, the 1908S Indian Cent in MS-65+ RD PL, ex QDB
  6. I can honestly say I've never seen a quarter like this, and can think of no error process by which this may occur. Maybe @RWB may have an answer? If not, try posting on CoinTalk and tagging Fred Weinberg?
  7. Skip, some of your threads with micrographs are quite useful with their mini photos. You're focusing on a specific detail, and a view of the full coin is not required for understanding the micro-effect in question. I get it. I've defended you. This thread is different, however, as you're asking about toning. Toning is not a micro-effect. Toning occurs across the entire coin. If I were to take a micrograph of a specific area of an AT'd coin, there might be enough markers to think its natural. However, when viewed across the entire coin, it's obvious its AT. Showing a very, very poorly color balanced microphoto and asking us to guess if it is naturally or artificially toned is absolutely counterproductive, deceptive, and honestly, useless. As you know, I've often been a big defender of your posts, despite the critics and trolls. I've offered numerous suggestions to help make them better. It strongly disappoints me that you've chosen to irrationally fly off the handle at me for calling you out on this thread. I never said I wouldn't respond to any more of your threads. What I said was, this *particular* thread is absolutely useless without full pictures of obverse and reverse. Even if you post ridiculously yellow-shifted pictures (as in your OP), we can correct for that. Just show us the whole coin. If you're going to ask about toning, I need to see the whole coin. If you can't show me the whole coin.... I can't give you an opinion.
  8. At the current time, I cannot recommend anyone new post to this forum. This forum currently has significant problems. Some of that is due to members who are not conducive to rational thought. Some of that is due to absolutely horrific technology. Some of that is due to a hostile environment. Dena's recent warning post was a tiny step in the right direction. Activity has picked up - but the vast majority of that action is coming from a few members who post endless inanity and constant drivel. The ignore feature has gone a long way to remedy that for me, but a new member is probably not going to be aware of who they should ignore, or even how to do that. Honestly, at the current moment, I'm much more likely to warn members *away* from posting on these forums than to join them.
  9. I can understand your need for micro photos on many posts. This one absolutely requires a full coin shot. There very well may be characteristics on one part of the coin which help an argument for or against natural toning, but which are not visible in your (I'm sure, intentionally) cropped shot. This one also requires a correctly white balanced shot - the picture you posted appears to be *significantly* yellow shifted. I will not opine on this until the full coin, obverse and reverse, are posted.
  10. If you saw the posts/poster in question that prompted this warning, you would have no question that deleting/banning would have been an appropriate response.
  11. This is the most thorough Vaccine Tracker I've seen: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.html
  12. That's how it is on CoinTalk, and I much prefer it. If you ignore someone, you won't even see a thread they post.
  13. If you check, those threads are gone. As any reasonable person would, Dena agreed that they were completely and ridiculously unacceptable.
  14. Poofing because I'm critical against an NGC decision is less preferred. Poofing because a member used extremely inappropriate language and imagery including Nazi memes and KKK slander against me is quite desired.
  15. I know at least a couple of people who won't buy a coin unless it has a TV or equivalent photo. I've personally seen this person pass on coins that would have been a great fit, just because it didn't have a TV. I must say, though, the new NGC photos look pretty good. I'm curious to see how they do with some nicely toned coins - the problem I have with the PCGS truviews is that they are often oversaturated and red-shifted.
  16. I just assumed it would be cancelled so I didn't make plans to attend.
  17. PCGS seems to have done this in 2016, which I would assume was also for the election: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/2016-1-silver-eagle-30th-anniversary-m-g/694566
  18. You think these could fall under "campaign tokens" in your collection, Bill?
  19. This is apparently a real PCGS label: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/2019-1-silver-eagle-first-strike-maga/693177 You can find another one here: https://www.moderncoinmart.com/2020-1-oz-american-silver-eagle-1-coin-make-america-great-again-pcgs-ms70-fs-trump-label-sku60590.html There is another version, apparently made for the campaign, which you can find here: https://www.moderncoinmart.com/2020-1-oz-american-silver-eagle-1-coin-pcgs-ms70-trump-2020-label-sku62047.html?ad=H627GM&gclid=CjwKCAjwlID8BRAFEiwAnUoK1boZOowndMUB4iTAuev28FjRmmAbSI5u6oMqqjh2SRNlwd_OjezwRRoCqBAQAvD_BwE
  20. Yes. The dates on Moroccan coins are always in Arabic numerals. Fun fact - the Arabic speakers of North Africa (such as the people in Libya and Morocco) are actually the ones who introduced Europe to this numeral system around the 10th century. So, they aren't "European" numerals at all! The "Eastern Arabic" numeral system still used on many Islamic coins was never really used in the western Arab countries.
  21. Well, this makes three now. I keep seeing these and they're just so cool! The crude charm of these hammered coins appeals to me.This particular coin is from AH1272, (which is 1855 AD). It is raw, and about the size of a US dime. It was struck in Fes Hazrat (when the Sultan lived in the city, it was given the honorific "Hazrat"). These gold coins had a very low mintage, because gold was not a common metal in Morocco. These benduqi have an even lower survival rate, because they were often used as decoration or melted. Both sides of the coin have the same simple design - the date and mint name surrounding a rose. So, tell me what you think!Post any crudely struck gold coins you might have, and tell us about them.
  22. The lettering is Indian. However, this is not a coin - it looks like a temple token: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_temple_tokens I have no idea what the date of yours is, but it seems yours bears a very common scene on these tokens. Lots of info here: https://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coins.pl?coin=521
  23. I really think you're tedious. And Boring. And probably an alt for Quintus Arrius, given your similarly long-winded and pointless rambling posts. Usually people who name themselves "Prof" are professors. I see I am clearly in error in overestimating your reputability and intelligence. With all of your grandiosity, you appear to have forgotten how to read. If you'll check back, there have been very few posts of substance in this thread, but Moxie and I discussed the idea of post mint damage. I know, it got lost in all of your ramblings. Yeah... I don't really have the time or desire to deal with you either. You'll probably continue to rant against me because you're a troll, but I'm going to put you on my ignore list and never have to suffer through your delirium again. I do hope everyone else here does the same.
  24. I think you misunderstand what Roger is saying. I think what he means is - its unlikely for a strikethrough like this (sawdust) to be only in the fields and abruptly stop right at the edge of the neck. Its far more likely that it would carry over onto the neck. And this is why I'm skeptical of the sawdust theory.
