Thanks got a free treasure book oh I do have a 1943 copper penny is it worth anything I also Have a Steel one which one is better?

We would need to see pictures of the coin close up and clear from both sides in order to determine if you have a genuine 1943 copper cent. Although the chances of you having the real deal are slim to none as it is an incredibly rare coin. I do believe you probably have a 1943 steel cent. They don’t command much of a premium like a 1944 steel cent but they are interesting IMO.

  2. This is one of the few times I’ve actually seen doubling on the coin. Usually when people ask about doubling I can’t even begin to see what they are talking about. When I first joined a few months ago I had no idea what doubling was and these people kept asking about it I thought something was wrong with my eyesight. Since then I’ve learned most of those people don’t really have doubling on their coin.

but that's about all I can think of (veterans, chime in with any other expensive coins circa 1960).

I’m certainly not a veteran but most of my great grandfathers collection that have purchase dates and price tags are from the late 60s and very early 70s. It seems weird Double eagles with a price tag of $200 on them. 2.5 dollar Indian heads are only like $70 too. The most expensive coin with a price on it is an 1855 type II gold dollar he paid $345 for in I believe 1968. It’s a really nice coin that would probably grade MS.

  4. Well, I think I made my first mistake purchase. Luckily I only paid $38 for this coin. I bought this coin a few days ago but I didn’t notice it at the time. The lighting wasn’t too good in there and the guy had other coins labeled as problem coins. This barber dime wasn’t labeled as cleaned like a couple were. Upon looking at the coin when I got home it looks to me like it has been polished or cleaned. I think I’m going to stick to slabbed coins for the time being.

  5. Hello everyone, I wanted to get some people’s thoughts on this. I want to try and assemble as many different types of US coins as I can. Some of the very early coins are pretty rare to find in any grade. I was wondering if you were buying would you just buy a lower grade of those coins or a higher grade that is cleaned? Is it more of a decision based off of how cleaned it is? Some of them show obvious signs of cleaning but some may be a bit less obvious. I know it’s not a good idea to buy cleaned coins of varieties that are plentiful but I didn’t know if they should be completely avoided the same with rarer coins. Thank you for your time.

If there's stuff you don't like with less sentimental value, no problem turning it into something you really like or love.

I inherited a bunch of old bills (very worn silver and gold certificates) and lots of silver coins....it was unwieldly and took up alot of space....turned it into a few graded bills including a nice Gold Certificate plus a Saint-Gaudens.  Kept a few of the older silver coins as a remembrance. (thumbsu

I have considered maybe turning some of the junk silver into other things. I already have 2 Saints and 4 large gold certificates. Those are probably my two favorites. Although I really like this seated quarter I bought the other day, it’s probably my favorite silver coin now.

Do you plan to keep them, sell them, what ?

Yeah I do plan to keep them all for now at least. There were a lot of coins overall in there. There is about 20 lbs of silver in there too as well as a bunch of really cool paper money. I am trying to go around and collect types of coins that I don't already have.

  8. I thought I would update everyone on the 22 gold coins I posted in January. I  didn’t want to take all of them into a shop at once so I took a few to multiple coin shops. All the ones I had checked out were good. I still would like to get them graded but I am hesitant to send them via mail because we have trouble getting things out in the country. Hopefully when these big shows start back up I can drop them off and pick them up at a show. I have also learned a lot of valuable information here from the members of this group. It has helped a lot as I’ve continued to collect coins and have added some more coins to my collection.

  9. It would be really hard to get a MS66 because there are only 7 known on the NGC census. I think it’s quite misleading that they put an MS66 on something that is ungraded. There is no way you could possibly guarantee the exact number it will receive. It’s much easier to be right if you choose a range such as XF, AU, etc. but even then there isn’t any guarantee. It still looks to be a good coin I just wouldn’t get my hopes of it getting that high.
