This is only my third contribution to this thread, but it is a nice coin. The images were taken in direct sunlight, and the NGC slab is scuffed, so there appear to be smudges on the coin that aren't really there. I'll get better images later. What is truly nice about this piece, aside from the original dark chestnut and navy surfaces that are somewhat PL, is the tremendous strike for the issue. It's an EF40.

That's an interesting toning pattern for the date. How do you think it was stored? The US Mint Sets for the date typically come with heavy blue toning overlaying a grey backdrop.

What does the reverse look like?

That's got really beautiful colors and is quite lovely, Lee!

I think I'm bleeding...

I agree that the coin looks to have been conserved, is there a milkspot underneath Ms Liberty's chin? If so, that might explain the PF63 even though you say there are fewer hairlines than might be expected.

There's nothing wrong with an original EF FE cent!

Spider, I do not mean to attack your coin at all, but my impression of the 1921 Peace dollar is that it looks far too nice to be an MS61 and that the strike is fine for the date. However, I think the coin might be circulated lightly and might really be an AU61. The reason I write this is that there appears to be an area of disturbed luster that corresponds with the high point on the obverse. I have circled this area in red. Please note that I am more than willing to believe I am wrong on this point, but that is how it appears to me without having the benefit of seeing this coin in-hand.

Tom - Why the hair pulling?
Because Seated Liberty coinage that is problem-free and attractive is not the easiest stuff to find, and when you have a numismatist of the caliber of MikeKing stating that he is now taking a closer look at this niche, well, that can't be good news to those of us who like to pickoff underappreciated and underpriced gems such as this-

Well, if Chad were to wear that bathing suit to the right venue then perhaps he wouldn't be dateless.
-
Nic-A-Date has long been used to "bring out" the date on nickels that have been extensively circulated to the point of being dateless (like Chad). It is a dilute acid that etches the surrounding metal and allows a ghost or shadow image of the date to become visible. The area around the date also becomes darkened and these pieces are easy to spot. I do not know if it would work well on silver, but there is truly no reason to do that to a coin such as the Peace dollar because the novelty of the piece would be shot if it were mistreated in that way.

Seeing seated coinage like this and what is above is making me more and more fond of seated liberty coinage which I used to consider boring in the past. No more.

Do you know what the text of the Panda says? I don't, I'm just curious.

Fantastic coin, Hayden!

You may also use the NGC site to host your picture by attaching it as usual, opening your post and clicking on the attachment and saving the URL of the attachment. Then, edit your post and use the image command of the instant UBB code and put the saved URL address in the popup box. This will embed the image in your post, though I may not have written this well enough to follow.

It can't be US Mint Set toning, unless the coin was placed into a cardboard Mint Set holder that it did not belong in, because these cardboard holders that imparted dramatic color were only used from 1947-1949 and again from 1951-1958.

Bruce, the 1805 DBH is a much, much, much, much, much, much harder date than the bid sheets suggest! Did I mention that it was much harder?

That is a whale of a pattern, BOILER78! Here is something a little less exotic-
