Hello JKK. That is new info to me regarding the grading process. I assumed all coins were graded under some type of magnification. I did get a better, higher magnification, loupe today and I can surely see the small dings on the effects and fields of this coin. Thank you for that information.

Just read all the informative posts. Thank you guys so much for your input!! I have been using the PCGS app and Lincoln Cents online to try to start learning what to look for in grading coins as a “newcomer” to this arena. It’s a bit overwhelming but I am slowly programing my AU mind.... Thanks!

I found this beautiful coin in a bank roll a few days ago. After looking up the HA and PCGS values I am wondering if I should send this in for grading. The patina on this coin is better than the pics show just FYI. I have never before submitted a coin for grading and would appreciate any input. Thanks!

Hello gentlemen. Thank you very much for your input and for that excellent diagram Greenstang. I was really hoping that I’d found a true oddity but sadly not so.... darn. You guys are truly a plethora of information and I value your years of experience and expertise. I’m going to keep on looking though as this has become somewhat of a passion!! Thanks again!!👍

If you don’t mind, would you look at the O in OF, it definitely shows a split on the letter. In addition, the bottom of the S in STATES is slightly missing it’s serif in relation to other coins of this year. Once again, I will try to take some better pics for you. Thank you for your time!!

As I have previously said in the past, I am not into posting frivolous items. I am trying to learn here on this forum and to date everyone that has responded to my posts have been OVERWHELMINGLY supportive, nice and more importantly informative. I came across this 1975 P cent today and as always I look at both sides of a coin before I throw it into my “keep pile” or my “return to the bank pile” (obviously I keep all of my copper)......
So, when I looked at the reverse of this 1975 I clearly saw, under a simple 10 power loupe, what is pictured below. Based on many many expert comments and opinions on this forum I have come to realize (well... I think I have learned.... ) the difference between a true DD and die deterioration as well as MD.
Based on what I see here, and my knowledge of die deterioration, MD and PMD this, to me, just doesn’t fit the bill of any of the above. It looks to me that there is true doubling on the letter A, S, and on the O of “OF”. Maybe I’m way off base here, as I know from my research that there has never surfaced a DDR 1975 P, but who knows..... Please look at the A. The doubling is slightly higher than the actual effect. It’s hard to see in my pic but there appears to be doubling on the E as well. As always, any input or feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all!!

Hey Greenstang and thank you for the nice comment. Been working on some of my equipment before it started raining yet again here in Georgia....... Geese!!!! I will try to take some pics tonight of the 1975 and post. Thanks again!!!

Thank you all for your input. I’m starting to feel like a “newbie” all over again. The thing that caught my eye with this coin is that the raised effect/ “lettering” under and beside the D MM looks to be part of the minting process. It’s very hard to tell in the pic as I could not get a good clear pic. It actually looks to be rounded and has good copper color. The “silver” discoloration was there when I found it and I’m sure it totally has to do with this zinc type issue. I will stash it in my “not so cool” collection, LOL. Believe me, I’ve found numerous coins that I have not posted but have done a lot of research online only to find that they are just poor/weak punches, useless errors, non-varieties, etc...... I will soon be posting a 1975 P Lincoln cent for observation for you guys for your opinion. I know there’s never been a true DDR found on this year cent but there’s always a first..... probably what keeps me looking for hours at a time.... this is addictive!! Ha. It’s getting much much more easier for me to to discern between true known varieties and just plain junk. Thanks again for all you guy’s responses.

Gotcha!! Thanks for the info. 👍

Looking for some comments and opinions on what happened here. I‘m fairly certain it’s not PMD as the “lower” mint mark is clearly punched and rounded from the mint. I thought that RPM’s or OMM’s weren’t supposed to exist for some time now. I had to use my loupe on my cell camera to take this pic but it turned out ok. Still learning here. Thanks!!

Also Greenstang, just curious what the value is of this coin in your opinion, in this condition, if you can discern from the photos. Possibly can you give it a “ballpark” grade?? I’m trying to learn grading and compare my coins to the PCGS website with all of their MS grades. Just thought I’d ask. Thanks again.

Thanks!!! I’ve seen several struck throughs but this one is by far the “cleanest” I’ve ever found roll hunting.

Thank you. When you say #1 being the rarest do you mean the 1999 WAM?
-
-
Oops..... forgot to take out the 1991 in the topic. My apologies. I will post that one too in a little while.
-
Well..... I finally found something worth keeping... LOL. My first 1998 WAM and it’s in very good condition except for a bent set on the reverse and some PMD hairline scratches left of Lincoln’s profile. After all of my “fails”, I do feel like I’m gaining some valuable knowledge and experience both from all the friendly posts and comments from this forum as well as my own diligent studying and learning the overwhelming “universe” of errors, varieties, DD’s, etc..... Thanks to all who have helped as I truly appreciate it. Just wanted to post this one for good times. Thanks!!

I figured that it was plated. My son found it in a change jar at a friend’s house and it was given to him. I’m still learning guys so please bear with me. Thank you for all the comments. I really enjoy this forum. 👍

Hello all. Greg here. Came across this beautiful coin and the pics just don’t do it justice. Just looking for some feedback on this coin. It’s a 1979 P and the entire coin is “gold” colored as you can see. Viewed through my loupe this coin has very high relief on all surfaces (if I’m saying that correctly...). I know there are narrow and wide rim varieties from this year but I’m not sure about this one. I’m leaning more toward a wide rim variety. Not sure if this is a proof or what. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A little help here on this one please, 2015 Lincoln

Found this one in bank roll last night. At first I glance I thought it was simple PMD. However, under magnification you can see the very visible die scratches (if that’s the proper term) are clearly present across the entire surface if I’m seeing that correctly. It’s also odd that the reverse has nearly a perfect oval “good spot” revealing a partial shield post. Also has a cud at about the 5 o’clock position on the obverse. Thanks for your comments.
