Totally clear on that Ronnie đ. I can see, and have learned, that these folks on this forum know their stuff and I truly appreciate their input and advice. Iâve said that numerous times before and I really mean it. These guys are true professionals and I would NEVER argue with them. I guess in my learning and coin searching process I can get a bit frustrated when I think Iâve found something but it turns out to be nothing. Iâve come to the realization that âya canât make something out of nothing.......â.  I know that so very well as a retired Detective and need to apply that mentality to my coin searching as well. Thanks again for all the replies, please donât âblacklistâ me đ and I look forward to working with you all in the future on this forum. You folks are a true wealth of knowledge.  Have a great Memorial Day, remember our Troops and God Bless!!

Hello Ronnie and thank you for your response. I will surely take some more pics of the obverse in different light and then some of the reverse just for reference . Itâs definitely a âchicken neckâ as you stated. Itâs no doubt an odd coin and nothing that has been tampered with as you can see from the die striations (if Iâm saying that correctly) directly in front of the neck. Iâve ran this coin by several numismatic  friends, not associated with this forum, and they are clueless on this coin. Just trying to figure out what I have here. I know itâs not a âretirement 43 copperâ  but I just need some input. Let me just say that I entirely appreciate everyoneâs input on ANYTHING I post!!!  I would never âstep on anyoneâs toesâ so to speak. I am open to any and all comments, suggestions, criticism (hopefully not:) regarding this oddity. Thanks.

Hello everyone and thank you for your replies and input. I am no expert and I am still learning here. One question... in the field area below the chin, next to and around the bow tie and neck, there is very good definition if you will notice. Can someone please inform me what these tiny horizontal lines are called?  Would all of these line be considered die scratches? Thanks.Â

I found online one other link about this same type of Cent. However, the guyâs 1983 Cent was so badly corroded that it was not easily visible. Fortunately my coin is very clean even though it is brown. Over polishing is definitely a plausible answer. Itâs just odd at how defined the neck line is and the bow tie is intact. Just not sure what to think of this one. Â

Also meant to add that itâs a zinc..... wish it was a bronze!!!!

One other note. The line through the steps on the reverse does not look to be PMD. In addition, several of the âscratchesâ (in the pics I took) are actually raised die lines or striations. Iâm still new to this Cent collecting and truly appreciate any input. Thank very much.Â

Thank you JKK. I was pretty sure that would be the call. No worries  đ

Went through my momâs old coin collection that was full of wheats. This one obviously stood out like a sore thumb. By now I feel I have a fairly good understanding in distinguishing between PMD and Mint errors and DDD. However, Iâm a bit stumped on this one. At first glance I was sure it was PMD. However, after looking at both sides of this cent I came to a âsemiâ conclusion that the âdentsâ are rather consistent in being in the same location on both the obverse and reverse. It also appears that if you were to draw a line from say 11 oâclock and down to 5 oâclock on the face of the coin the lines would âconnectâ. This looks to be true on many of the dents around the rim of the coin. I remember reading somewhere about this type of damage that could be caused by some sort of possible die deterioration. Just looking for some input and I wonât be disappointed if the jury is unanimous in calling this PMD. Thanks.Â

Iâm sorry but you are incorrect. This is definitely not a dryer coin. If it was, there would be visible damage to the obverse rim which you can see is in excellent condition. The reverse of the coin has no damage as well.Â

Thanks Greenstang! Â I did read about acetone and Iâm glad you suggested that. If this coin has value to it I definitely donât want to mess it up.

Found this one in a bank roll last night. Am I correct in calling this a struck thru die cap? Under magnification I believe I can see a very faint partial date of 199 but the fourth number is not visible. It is a zinc coming in at 2.5 on my scale. Just wish it didnât have the âgunkâ on it.......

Thanks Greenstang for that explanation. It makes total sense. Much appreciated.Â

Thanks to all for your input. I will keep looking..... đ

One other thing. I am still learning but in all of my research I have not found a DD of this nature on this year coin. Itâs a 1984 P Cent. All Iâve ever seen on this year cent is the doubling of the ear.
-
Hello to all. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during these trying times. I know Iâve posted several pics of what I thought may be a doubled die.  Iâve been a little busy the last several weeks but I finally got back into Cent Searching and found this one tonight. If this is not a TRUE DD then I simply donât now what Iâm looking for.....LOL. There are no angular âshelfsâ and the doubling is truly rounded. Hopefully you can tell from the picture. I will try to take better pics and post if anyone thinks this is a DD. Thank you!

Good call. Thanks. đ

Or should I say âdie polishâ markings. Iâm learning..... bear with me. And thank you all for your teaching and wealth of knowledge you supply.Â
-
đ. It was just that what I believed to be the die scratches threw me off on this one. Whoever did the damage to the coin did a very good clean and neat job might I add. Lol
-
đ. Thanks Coinbuf. One day...... just one day Iâm determined to find something thatâs going to make everyoneâs jaw drop.... LOL. I know even if the coin in this link was a die error itâs not like Iâd found  a 55 or 58 true DD, haha......keep on looking!!!!đ
