  1. I say ms 63; it's nice-looking, but not exactly the greatest strike I've ever seen (disclaimer; I am not an experienced grader, particularly not with buffalo nickels. The grade provided is a guesstimate based off a general idea of grading, not how to grade buffalo nickels specifically)

When you add a coin to a custom set you can select "Want" instead of "Own" and fill that new slot with images and notes for your raw coin.  I plan to do that for several new crowns that I've picked up but haven't yet sent in for certification.

really? Cuz there's a LOT of stuff I want.... "gee, he's got an ultra-high relief St. Guaden's Double Eagle on his income?"... is it possible to say you want multiples of something?.... "I never knew that there were that many 1913 liberty head nickels!"

Okay, in this context, the word is “fazes me”, not “phases me”, but I digress. I believe heavy handed moderation to be a pure evil, and I’ll tell you why. When Person A offers an opinion that might be counter to the pecuniary interests of Person B, Person A will IMMEDIATELY become a targeted individual BY Person B and his cronies. This is what happens on a DAILY basis over at CoinTalk. Worse yet, when someone offers an opinion that may negatively affect the bottom line at NGC, perhaps Dena herself will become “the assassin” personally. Slippery slope, NGC, slippery slope. But sooooo 2020, am I right?

"you can have a car in any color you want, as long as it's black," to paraphrase Henry Ford... I just don't understand what's wrong with simply blocking the ppl who say clearly wrong stuff, and leaving it at that... then again, who said spite was a bad thing?

  4. well, I wouldn't recommend "sweet-talking", as part of competing in the market means getting a rep for unbiased grading, so they'd probably be more apt to hold it against you... anyhow, hey, why not? worst case scenario, you got them graded, so then you'll know. would recommend getting the add-on where they send you back your mint packaging, in case you ever decide to "crack" the slabs.

there is always room for improvements n the ana is facing challenging times but it is currently well  situated geographically, financially n professionally.

uh, literally every issue of the numismatist for the past who knows how many months has pres ellsworth talking about how the ana needs more donations, and needs layoffs, and needs cutbacks on the length of the magazine (at least like four articles have been cut out, and only one added). Not to mention exec director Kiick has been also writing about a need to raise more funds, in addition to the various fundraiser ideas the organization has been trying, such as the past president slabs thing.

Sure, you could argue that the ANA is well-situated in the middle of no-where, but the idea that they're financially okay is entirely off from the reality of the current situation.

And far as your question of why any collector would want to go to those larger cities? Perhaps some actually need more than one reason to actually get a on a plane and go somewhere, not to mention that in a big city, a trip to the museum could easily be "slid in" the schedule amongst whatever else they may be already going there for. (btw, I am a member of the ANA, and would support the ANA museum moving, if it were practical and possible from a financial perspective, which it's not). At the end of the day, consider this; is the Smithsonian in some out of the way place? Is any large, major museum? I guess it's a decision of how you see the ANA's museum; a small little place put together, or a institution containing one of the finest numismatic holdings in the world.

  6. The ANA is able to lease the building for the money museum at a very low cost... that alone defeats most of the motivation to move. If they ever did bother to move, realisticly the only reasonable place to move would be near some other popular museums... sort of, hey, we're already here looking at museums, let's check this out type deal; beyond that, how would a different location really generate enough increased foot traffic to justify all the cost and effort of moving, particularly since the ANA has already "slimmed" down it's magazine (I noticed those like four-five columns going missing without notice, btw ANA), and used ad space to market various campaigns to raise funds, in addition to increase in asking for donations.

Let me try to stay out of the worst of the fray by sticking to what I know for certain. The current President, Steve Ellsworth of Butternut Coins, is a very strong Type A personality whose ideas are highly controversial. Some members, including many of the most active members, frankly hate his guts. He has done many highly controversial things, and the Board has shot him down on many more. In all my years as an active member, I've never seen any President on the losing side of so many 7-2 or 8-1 votes.

The ANA does have a MASSIVE endowment, but Steve and some others don't want it used for operations, ever. They want a balanced current year budget every year, allowing the endowment to grow ad infinitum. Educational programs have suffered, and that's supposed to be the ANA's mission, not a coin dealer marketing association. That's about as far as I want to go for now. I am planning to run for the Board of Governors.

If you don't support that nonsense of presidents staying on, and other Ellsworth nuttiness (pardon the pun) I'll vote for you

As much as I like the security of Registered Mail, the 7-10 days it can take to get to me is really annoying. I wish that NGC would use First class mail with private insurance for the lower value shipments. Given the volume that NGC ships and the extremely low rate of lost packages, they could significantly reduce shipping costs to the customers (and probably make more money for themselves) as well as get the coins back faster to the submitters. It's a win-win for everyone involved.

perhaps it would cost more to be using two different mailing types, even if by the same "company"?

    To All Concerned:

I neither need nor require a signature line. (Why would anyone need  or require a signature line for a made-up user name?)

The very suggestion of the dissemination of signature lines is highly suspect.  If you really want to introduce a little excitement in your life, why not also include your birth date, social security number and right thumb print?

There is not a single person frequenting this site who is unaware I am the one and only Quintus Arrius.  What most members, including my favorite, VKurtB, may be unaware of is, quoting Shakespeare, "Who steals my [change purse and wallet] steals trash. So act accordingly.

Don't forget about credit card numbers, pin number, and house address:roflmao:

Well PCGS just graded it at UA53, they dont even mention the E in ONE

    Very disappointed

perhaps it has to do with how you submitted? I know that with NGC, you need to pay for the varietyplus or minterror service for most errors and varietys (except for uber popular ones) to be recognized...
