Little light in color (but that may be the imaging) but it looks like a typical silver war nickel to me. As just Bob say specific gravity or XRF gun testing is going t be the only way to know for sure.
Thank you

I believe all the 42 S nickels were war nickels with the mint mark about Monticello. The Redbook isn't showing any 42 S non silver nickels being minted.
That is exactly my point!

Looks like a normal well circulated nickel to me. Not sure if that is a ding or a die chip on the reverse but it is nothing significant. What do you see that I don't?
Well after doing a little research looks to me as if it could possibly be a 1942S?I just recently took a couple of more pictures that I am about to post

Sitting here going through some of my nickels when I ran into this 1942 didnt think much of it but as I continued to stroll through I began to ponder why was something bringing me back to this 42? It must be something however I clearly don't have a clue so if anyone can help me with this I would truly appreciate it thanks!

Thanks for the information so from what you see would this be a good piece to send for authentication being that it is in original proof casing?

Almost positive this could be a DDR on my 1991S Lincoln Cent chime in with thoughts I have a couple of sets and this is the only one that contains these unusual features on a proof cent

Heritage Auction has sold AU Browns in the past. Price varies, but seem to range from $45-$60. Those are certified and graded though. I found one too.
Good deal thanks for the info!

I have literally drilled a hole in 5 totally worn Jefferson nickels with the same diameter with alternate speeds not one has metal protruding out nor around the edges outside furthermore all metals we expelled from the top and also not enough heat was created during the process I drilled them in a vise open end I drilled them on a flat surface every way I could think of and not 1 has the same results as the one I've posted so I'll set it aside and continue educating myself in numismatics
