Unloved, largely unknown, and mostly unused.
Heathens...All of them.
Pearls before swine unwashed masses of filth & depravity.
We are trying to enlighten you base, foul & unholy excuses for humanity.
1st two words out of your dirt covered faces should be..."Thank You".

Ha! What do coins look like after being in a Wendy's drive-thru?
Depends on what some popular insufficiently_thoughtful_person says they look like.
Independent thought is not a thing nowadays.

JA likes shiny coins....Big flipping deal.
I prefer my Saints not look like they spent all day in a McDonald's drive-through lane.

Other than my "cold dead 20 box", everything else is expendable.
It's sometimes a nice way to prune a collection.

Saving for a 29 is about a lost cause. It goes up faster than I can do it. A MS64 was 45K in 2020 and now it's 85K.
Maybe it's time to start chasing chickens again.

The secret of my success on the left coast is simple: I overbid, pure and simple.
I admit to checking your set before bidding on a top-pop, just to make sure you already have one.
So far as Saints go, the price basically went up 1/2 grade on the "jump coins". Essentially, if you could afford a "poverty set" (07-28 minus the 21) at a set average of MS65, it's now a MS64.5 for the same price.
The good news is that undegrading happens and with a lot of work you can assemble a MS65 looking set for MS64 money. (with great effort)
If I had it to do over, I couldn't come close to my current set average, but I could get very close with the quality of the actual coins. (I'd go for 65 commons & 64 for everything else)
I'd say as few as a dozen new set collectors with money could really screw things up.

...for the most part the entire set can be assembled in a few days..
I'm only averaging about 1/year so I guess I really suck at collecting them.
So far as "sleepy hollow" -vs ATS...I'm much happier here. About all they talk about is plastic & stickers. Drives me absolutely nuts.

...Lower MS common date Saints have recently been going for around $2,200 to $2,500, and some over $2,500, but nowhere near the numbers you are suggesting they should go for....
I've noticed from the registry that there are very few upgrades amongst those of us who have been at it awhile. Gold looks like it's tanking and severely bagged-out common saints are still selling at over 2K.
I think most of us are just shaking our heads.
Time to head over to the dark side and see what chaos, if any, is going on over there.

But I think JA acknowledged finding quality graders right off the bat will be difficult, no ?
I wonder what he'll call his 4th TPG after he has another hissy fit and leaves CAC?

I mean I could see the advantage of having a CAC sticker for some of the rarer expensive coins
My guess is a "rare/expensive" saint gets graded about once every 50 years.
50 years from now the "market" won't even care who JA was.
I think I'm ahead of the market now in that I believe there will be a return to more technical grading for saints.
About half the saints I've seen with beans are just really-really bad. No other way of putting it. It's almost like he's flipping them....Heads up, CAC....Tails up, no-CAC

Check out Elite's proof set of saints. (New owner of the Koessl set)
Also check out the consecutive cert. numbers (XXXXX908-XXXXX915)
The 1913 has a different number

MCMVII extremely high relief pieces are patterns. Period. If a TPG wants to look both ignorant and foolish, that is their option.
I guess the reasoning ATS is that because there were so many made & they were passed out, that they are proofs
On 7/12/2022 at 1:51 AM, Elite Collection said:So the 1933 is a coin, but it's not part of the complete set of Saints.
And that is another mystery. Probably because it went dark for so long that they didn't know if it was collectable anymore
Either way, the registry needs a bit of a rethink now that we have someone making a serious run at a complete set.
My thoughts are that a complete set should include the 8 proofs (1908-1915) plus the collectable patterns as well as major varieties etc.
BTW...If the UHR is a proof then why is it not listed as necessary in the collection of proofs (9 would then be necessary)

Pattern pieces are not coins and never were.
That's why I don't get the registry ATS
The UHR is not listed as a pattern.

Judd 1779 PR
Quoting myself
We all know what the J1776 is and I suspect the J1779 is the "checker" (double thick eagle)
WTH are the 1778 PR & 1778a?
And why would they list a coin in the registry that is uncollectable (J1779)

Simpson is selling his set of saints in the Heritage August sale!
Simpson had the best overall set I've ever seen. Unfortunately, many of his TrueViews have been taken down. A great loss and something that makes me very angry with PCGS.
The 16 top pops aren't enough to describe how many absolute monsters were in the Simpson set.
It's a set that had continuity and was carefully assembled by him over many years rather than throwing money at a dealer.
Here's what is left at the registry ATS. BTW...If you see a saint with four 6666 in a row, it's probably a Simpson. (until the new owner has it regraded)

Soooo...Curiosity is killing my cat
Eliasburg set at 93.2% complete https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/gold/20-gold-major-sets/st-gaudens-20-gold-major-varieties-1933-patterns-1907/alltimeset/4834
Elite at 94.9% https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/gold/20-gold-major-sets/st-gaudens-20-gold-major-varieties-1933-patterns-1907/360
They are giving Eliasburg credit for the 33 & we know Elite has one. The only other coins are the patterns. (Elite still private for obvious reasons)
See my curiosity?
Possible candidates???

I picture J.A. sitting at a table with his beaming daughter at his side. He doesn't have a loupe; in his line of work he doesn't need one. Over 99.99% of the work involved has been done for him. All his daughter wants to know is Yes, or No. He gives the artifact sent to him a quick once-over and issues his proclamation.
I imagine a conveyer belt with coins on it. JA pecks at the shiny ones as they go by & then off to the sticker station.
I seriously doubt anyone at CAC owns a loupe.

CACG has arrived. Loudly knocking. Will NGC and PCGS answer the door? Do you think NGC and PCGS will counter CACG and their "premium certification" services with their own new services or certifications?

I'm not taking a MS67 Marianne with a switchblade mark on her face either, no matter how shiny she is.
F-CAC...You should be glad you don't have to deal with that dork-nozzle.
