  1. Nope. A few dollars, but less than the cost of authentication and grading.
  2. Look for a coin dealer with PCGS or NGC submission privileges. Ask them to look at your coins before submitting them. He/She can give you a realistic idea of their condition, and the chances of getting a grade that is worth the grading fee.
  3. Too many U-tube videos. Read one good numismatic book and call me in the morning if not feeling rational.
  4. US Mint specifications for 1943 zinc coated steel cents: First issue, to April 1943 -- 41.5 grains (2.69 g) tolerance +/- 1.5 grains (+/-0.097 g) Second issue, to Dec 1943 -- 42.5 grains (2.75 g) tolerance +/- 1.75 grains (+/-0.113 g) But -- most planchets were made by contractors and there was limited quality control, especially on zinc plating. The zinc was supposed to be 0.001 inch thick.
  5. The design, if we can call it that, is cluttered, unfocused and a general mess. The medal/award is significant, but the presentation on this coin is a travesty.
  6. Buy a good loop and view for yourself.
  7. Such an important medal and such an ugly coin. (My Dad came home from WW-II with many medals including a silver star. But he said the one he never received and valued the most was the Purple Heart. I felt the most important award was his safe return.)
  8. Huh? The two are not related. The coin is uncirculated....just like all of them.
  9. The detail photo is about 5x. Holder scratches, such as the long diagonals across ES, are clearly evident. The irregular handling marks on the coin field are on the coin.
  10. The key phrase here is, "They are sure it's MS-65 and MAYBE MS-66." That is an opinion supporting they have insufficient knowledge to assign and support one of those "grades." Comparing grades is only viable if both (or all) graders used identical standards, but we know from experience that they do not, never did, and never will -- especially if there is money to be made by loosening whatever passes as "standard." The takeaway is that seller and buyer have to negotiate value because the TPGs have no standard in common.
  11. From the description: "1896 Morgan Dollar, PR65 Undesignated Cameo Contrast 1896 $1 PR65 PCGS. CAC. The Philadelphia Mint struck 762 proof Morgan dollars in 1896, down considerably from the 880 proofs of the famous 1895 issue. This impressive Gem proof exhibits sharply detailed, frosty design elements that show bold, but undesignated, cameo contrast with the deeply mirrored fields. The surfaces are well preserved and the high quality within the grade is confirmed by CAC. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 36 in 65, 39 finer. CAC: 5 in 65, 4 finer (12/23).(Registry values: N2998)" Photos show many fine scratches and some defects in the fields, plus a few contact marks in relief on both sides. I feel the grade is reasonable given current "standards."
  12. The vanAllen book is basic and old. You'll find better, fully accurate information in the book Renaissance of American Coinage 1916-1921.
  13. What ! ?? Is the Parson coming fer dinner? Now I got to kill and pluck another danged chicken. Hate plucking them critters although they do make ya laugh after ya chop their heads off and they run around the yard a bit....
  14. Mules don't commonly die clashed together; they are sterile. Donkeys are better at clashing while horsing around.
  15. Doubts are doubts and from the scenario so far, seem reasonable. Anytime a seller equivocates, prevaricates, or kissmekates one has to wonder about anything they might say or do. I suspect Quintus would feel the same.
  16. When warm, with a slather of Irish butter or maybe honey, they are core comfort food.
  17. Fun to write, too! Eric and Evelyn were special people.
  18. Sadly, an ugly pair of designs and a completely meaningless non-event. This, similar trivial commemoratives, and abuses led to ending the program it was revived 30+ years ago. Now, market saturation and trivialization threaten to do the same.
  19. Please tell us what led to your conclusion this is an "experimental" quarter?
  20. Deserved. Keep learning. Keep testing.
  21. If you're going to buy, know what you're buying or trust the seller.
  22. Cats are OK as indoor pets for responsible owners. Otherwise they are invasive species and destructive vermin. However, some of the videos I've come across suggest the validity of my earlier comment.
  23. Please stop watching (or believing) U-tube videos. You can learn more from your family cat.
  24. Contact the 2025 show coordinator right away with a proposed topic and an abstract.
  25. This URL will take members to a show report and related comments by NGC member "FlyingAl." I think it will be enjoyable for all. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1099284/fun-show-report
