  1. Mike - I especially like the 1889 Gold Dollar - doesn't that coin have a history -

ie: the coin was lost or stolen ?

Yes, the coin does have some history. Incidentally, it's my icon coin.

For those that don't recall. I purchased the coin on eBay, gave it to my local dealer to be submitted to NGC, and the dealer misplaced the coin, replaced it with a PCGS 64, then found the coin and we traded back. Took about 6 months, but I finally got the coin back (if not certified -- it is still raw)...Mike

I remember you were inconsolable when the coin was lost - and am

very happy for you that it all worked out for the better.

So, the PL coin never made it to NGC for encapsulation, huh ?

I remembered the date - as I have a MS & PR set from 1889.

  2. I just realized that I upgraded the 1896-O in AU 55 - shown above - with

a coin from Irv Reichels collection - a PCGS AU 58. I sent the above coin to

a well known coin dealer in Boston - you can figure it out, I don't want to sound

like I'm shilling for them; they should have it by next Tuesday - Jan. 22nd. I also

consigned a splendid 1897-O also in pcgs 55; [ there were ten coins in all , but this

isn't the place to discuss a BST or advocate another's coin business. ]

Anyhow...to continue with 1896...this half dollar is in a PCGS 58 holder.

    and the nicest looking quarter [ 1897-O PCGS 58 ] and a couple of halves [ 1902-P VF25 - raw for the Whitman Bookshelf album, and a 1902-S PCGS 58 & 1903-P PCGS MS 63 / EX: Pryor ] plus a very choice 1898-S Double Eagle in PCGS 58, and an assortment of XF 40-45 Mercury dimes for the Dansco album [ 1916-S, 1917-P, 1924-P, 1927-P & 1928-S ],

and the . last Washington quarter for my proof collection a choice 1966 SMS PCGS 66 CAM. Sorry, no images as yet, hopefully soon.

I thought I had done pretty good and was very pleased with myself with what I located during the two days I was there. When I returned yesterday afternoon [ sorry, I couldn't stay for the NGC Luncheon ] I received an email from Ebay about my bid on another half. To be safe, I upped my bid tonight and its now official, I'm now the proud owner of this beautiful

    1903-O half, in a PCGS 58 holder.

  4. My newest addition to my F12-VF20 Barber half set..............curse you Elbezar, you got me hooked... :cloud9:

PS: there is a "lump" at the bottom of the reverse rim..at first I thought it was a rim ding but upon further inspection it is just a small mound of extra silver...what is this called?

The word you're searching for is a CUD - but thats not what that is. Its a rim bump - pure and simple. Neither NGC nor PCGS would holder it.

Other than that its a nice coin. Don't crack it out unless you're going to try a Dansco album.

    Its ' E l b e s a a r ' [bTW] not Elbezar. I really don't care but the name has a special meaning to me.
