He doesn't even realize it NEEDS to match anything. He's off on his own wild goose chase without knowledge. He thinks any type of visual anomaly is important, and it just isn't.

No. Not PR. Based on details, it’s an AU coin, but the active corrosion prevents a straight grade, IMO.

Are you a member? If so, you probably got the same "think of us in your will" letter that I got. I first started getting them when my health issues got serious. I felt like my computer was spying on me. "What do they know that I don't?"
There will be some deaccessions from the collection, though. There have already been some. There is redundant material in there, and not just a little bit.
Philosophical question: If the ANA owns 2 of the 5 1913 Liberty nickels, do you sell one when you are allowed to by the bequeath?

Thats exactly right from the paper I have from that budget meeting. 2020 has slashed all categories of revenue (old guys die from COVID), seminars are rare as hen's teeth except in targeted states, the convention didn't happen, and all the fixed costs carry on, just like when sales of numismatic products at the US Mint drop.

Hey, don’t get me wrong. I like a good western as much as the next guy. But I never understood the allure of gold. The most interesting thing about Goldfinger to me was the female lead character’s name.

I too get a bit annoyed seeing how many guys get snookered into buying high digital magnification USB scopes. A better choice is a “real” microscope of the type used for circuit boards or dissections. Stereo viewing plus a camera tube. Yes, it costs more than a USB cheapie. But even a Chevy costs more than a used Yugo.

I'm not certain which of your worlds disturbs me more, Roger's contact mark counting "nick picking" world, or your "if it's good enough for Bugatti, it's good enough for me" world. All things considered, I'll take grading the way NGC does it today, thank you very much. And I put my money where my mouth is, too. I can't think of ANYTHING about coin grading that has NOT fantastically improved since "the good old days". As if...

MS62 is correct. Nothing higher would be fair. Every part of that obverse is marred badly.

I'm convinced that all this talk about just plain folks holding gold coins is more the stuff of romanticized legend than reality. Heck, even Bust Half Dollars are available in nicer conditions today because they were primarily used for bank-to-bank transactions. Why would not the same apply to gold coins? Remember, a huge number of U.S. gold coins out there today had lengthy "European vacations". They aren't even mostly coins hidden from the 1933 melting pot.
Exceptions: the three major gold rushes with mintmarks - C, D, and S, and the western frontier generally. Again, cowboy movie fodder.

"Tilting" is important for examining a coin, critical even, but the needs of examination and photography are different, until and unless we get a standard moving picture format, something several people are working on. As long as we are getting a look at the entire coin in a photo, tilting is a fool's errand.

The Pennsylvania State Snake image could be my old now departed cat dragging home a dead copperhead by the neck. She made it to 20 years. From the size of him, I'd judge the snake died at 1-2. She was one badass hunting cat.
The Termite Series should come with a collectible hardwood frame. When the frame is gone, your set is complete.
