    A MS67 too!
I went to my local coin dealer in Green Bay. They sell more trading cards than coins. Not surprising yeh? Anyways, I bought 4 of the 2013 Mint Sets. There last four they had in stock with 3 still sealed brown boxes and one open for display.
The best of all four sets was....the opened one...
Going thru the coins in the sets something caught my eye and I relooked and sure enough there is a few impressions on the Reverse right below the steps. The photo didn't show it all but you get the idea. Kinda looks like part of the nose or cheek from the Obverse. It's not enough in my opinion to get graded for Mint Error but does have a great shot at MS67.
So if you enjoy Mint errors, keep your eye on the nickels!
    Thanks

    One big WOW too!
Here is my latest submission results. I been chasing the 2011 P Sacagawea and the P Garfield for some time. I got both MS68's this time. I wasn't going to pay $300 or more for either of these modern dollars.
I have now looked at about 40 - 2013 US Mint sets and I have to say that the quality has really took a nose dive. It will really take some effort to get all the 2013 Presidents in MS68 year. I may need to even purchase a few but no way would any be worth $500 or more ... that would be insane!....
Anyways... my Big WOW is from only two Mint sets I kept from the first batch, I sent in two 2013 D Nickels. I really expected both to be MS67 6FS but...a MS68 6FS Nickel ... WOW! I looked back on the census and there as only been 8 D MS68 6FS nickels over the last 10 years. Sad thing though, I don't collect the Mint State nickels only the Proofs.

    Check out Ebay
If you were like me and collect Silver Eagles and avoided buying the 2011 (w) Silver Eagle because it was not originally part of the Silver Eagle registry slots until real recent, check out Ebay. Though they are PCGS bullion, I doubt if you will find any that are still affordable with NGC.
BTW... I don't sell Silver Eagles...just buy the ones I need to fill my slots is all
    Good luck!

    Will the Mint lower prices?
With Silver and Gold prices plummeting to over a 2 year low. How long will the US Mint adjust some of their Commemorative coin prices and Eagles?
My guess is sometime next week?

    What I was hoping for
I don't collect Eagle Proofs just the MS version. I was hoping for all MS70's and whatever I get on the Proofs would be fine, those would just get sold anyways.

    This even surprised me.
Earlier I posted I upgraded my Nickel Proof collection and thought I would never be able to purchase any PF70 UC nickels under the year of 1990. One seller kept having a weekly auction of the 1989 nickel. They were going between $85 and $125.00, I placed a bid on one for this past Sunday for a max of $85.00 and no one bid on it after me so I purchased it for only $76.00!!

    A EBAY steal
Usually I don't mention on here what I purchased or added to any of my collections. I have been searching for a 1969 S PF69 UC nickel for awhile that was affordable. There was one being auctioned on Ebay I noticed over this weekend. Starting bid at $139.00 with less than 24 hrs left and no bids. I bid $146.00 and hoped for the best. I am one of those that question paying too much for a modern coin. If I can't get a deal, then I just pass on it. Low and behold, No one else bid on that nickel!!
It has a value of about $350 and over 900 points. I doubt if I will be able to add to this collection for awhile now. I do have four PCGS nickels I would love to replace with NGC but hardly ever see them on Ebay.
I do really like that nickel collection with the collectors that are in that set as well.
    Happy collecting!

Is it because of major dealers?
Anyone else notice that NGC is slow to update the census after any major dealer has had many submissions. I know that NGC had the results before end of day on Friday because the dealer was making many of the coins for sale on Ebay starting around mid-week last week. The census is a very valuable tool for all of us coin collectors to know just how many are graded. Seems to me NGC waits to keep the numbers low to please the major dealers. For examaple, If I was interested in a certain coin and the census shows there are only three, I would either see if I could buy one or search for that one to submit myself. So when the census is finally updated weeks later... that coin does not have a low census any longer...wasting my time and money.
    Anyone else suspect this?

    No 2012 dollar census
It has been over 4 weeks at least that neither the Presidential or the Sacagawea mint state dollar census has been entered.
Anyone else notice this? I really would like to know the census numbers one of these days.

    2012 P GROVER CLEVELAND 2ND TERM $1 MS 66
    2012 P GROVER CLEVELAND 2ND TERM $1 MS 66
Only three MS67's, I only submitted one Denver because the ones in the Presidential dollar set were low quality overall.
On a side note, I see all the registry points are raised in the First Day Issue Presidential set to match the points in the regular Mint State set. Took them forever to change that.
    Happy collecting everyone!

Its not easy finding these in higher grades with full steps.
Its been awhile since I posted anything to the journal or have been able to do much collecting since my unemployment beginning of the year. It seems the market place is not as eager to hire a Vietnam-Era Vet over 55. As the line goes from the movie "Youth is wasted on the wrong people"...
Here is my lastest attempt for those nickels:
    001 1988 D 5C MS 66 6FS
    002 1989 P 5C MS 66 6FS
    003 1989 D 5C MS 65 6FS
    004 2003 D 5C MS 65 6FS
I don't collect them per se but it does help fuel my pockets.

Not totally gone but made just for us now
The government in its "wisdom" decided to stop the US Mint from producing the presidential dollars for general circulation. Souns like the dollars would still be made for the mint sets and the specially wrapped rolls in the white boxes. No more $1000 boxes. The government really has been another chance to stop making the dollar bill. The public would then start using the dollar coin which lasts up to 7 times longer than the paper currency. That would be the real savings and the vaults would start to be emptied out. I would think they would learn after the Susan B Anthony and the Sacagawea's how to make it work.

Too many orders for the 5 oz Hot Springs silver coin
I got thru to the US Mint site at 10 mins after the official selling time today for the 5 oz Silver "P" Hot Springs coin.
    1. 2010 ATB SILVER COIN - HOT SPRINGS (NP1)
Not 100% sure if I will get one yet but I am pretty sure since I just tried to log back into the US Mint site, They took down the catalog section.... or it crashed.
I feel lucky to order one now.
Good luck to everyone else that is still trying!

    Returned 25th Anniversary SAE sets
These late coming 25th Anniversary SAE sets makes me wonder. What do you think the U.S. Mint would do with returned 25th Anniversary SAE sets?? Sets that the original buyer bought, opened the boxes and saw the poor quality and returned them.
Would the U.S. Mint repackaging them and resell them again??
This might be a buyer be aware!!
I hope sure hope not but just wondering is all.

    Hundreds of sets??
Here an email I just received from ParadiseMint:
2011 American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets

This is the set that sold out in approx 5 hours at the US Mint. The mintage was half of the 2006 20th Anniversary Sets. While we have hundreds of sets coming in or at NGC. We do still expect to sell out quickly so don't delay.

Hundreds??? Hmmm...talk about abuse and lack of any consideration over greed and sheer profit!
They are selling raw sets for over $1000 a pop too and so is ModernCoinmart.
    Sad....so sad!

UPS/FedEx or USPS for anniversary sets
I need the building address for NGC to submit my one set of the Anniversary set. I would rather use UPS for this submission than the Postal Service since is fairly large.
What has everyone been using for a carrier?
An address would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks

    Bank Wrapped from $500 boxes
I have noticed there are a few sellers on Ebay offering $10 half dollar rolls unsearched. Talk about a questionable way to search for 40% silver Kennedys and 90% silver halves. First, just about anyone with a bank connection can buy a few rolls for face value of the rolls. Banks, by law, can not make a profit, some though charge so much a roll to cover their expenses. Second, Silver weighs more than straight clad coins. Even though dealers are stating "unsearched" doesn't mean they haven't weighed the roll.
Buyer Beware!! There maybe honest sellers out there but why take a chance when you can get them from local banks.

    25th Anniversay Set
My Mint status just changed to:

25TH ANNIVERSARY AE 5 COIN SILVER SET 1 $299.95 $299.95 In stock and reserved
    Mine was orderd at 2:51CST
On a side note, I noticed that is not a single 25th Anniversary Set on Ebay now. Did Ebay removed all of them? or did all them sell?
    ummm.
Sorry, I know we are trying to move on from this!

    All will go!!
I made a decision last night and felt the same way this morning. I been collecting the Presidential dollars since the start in 2007. It gets to be a lot to have a FDI set, a Business set, a SMS set and a proof set. I have stopped the SMS set about two years ago. I realized I would have been one of those collectors what would have loved to try to order the 2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle set. I could only afford to order one set. A set that could really appreciate over the years.
I need to get rid of one of the Presidential sets and decided that First Day Issue makes the most sense for me. I would use the proceeds to invest in better collections and pay down my credit cards. Will I miss this collection? You bet I will! More than half of them I searched thru rolls myself and finding those worth grading. It was rewarding indeed. Now that the US Mint changed their mint sets to straight business strikes doesn't make sense to search thru dollar rolls anymore.
Anyways, if any of you are interested, please let me know. I don't want these to end up in dealer hands. They need a good home!
Good luck to all that tried order the Anniversary set.

    Another Six step nickel
I have been lucky enough to find a six step 1987 P nickel and came back MS67 from NGC. Now I am lucky again with a 1971 P nickel MS66 six steps from NGC. Only 3 at this grade and only one higher!! I am not always correct with the grade at times but I am getting the hang of full steps.
Everyone enjoy the MLB playoffs...Go Brewers!

    US Mint changes
I just noticed that the US Mint now will allow up to 5 ATB's from the same address instead of only one. Like that stopped dealers from ordering more than the limit.
And now the US Mint is going to mint 35,000 per coin but will still charge $279 each. Hopefully they will start producing better quality...
    Happy opening NFL season!

Yes...NGC still will do First Day Issue!
I only sent in five Grant dollars to NGC to see if they would still do FDI. I maybe the only one that even tried. I know that will open the floodgates again for the following Presidents.
Anyways...Here's my results. Everyone have a great holiday weekend!!
