    What I was hoping for
I don't collect Eagle Proofs just the MS version. I was hoping for all MS70's and whatever I get on the Proofs would be fine, those would just get sold anyways.

Not totally gone but made just for us now
The government in its "wisdom" decided to stop the US Mint from producing the presidential dollars for general circulation. Souns like the dollars would still be made for the mint sets and the specially wrapped rolls in the white boxes. No more $1000 boxes. The government really has been another chance to stop making the dollar bill. The public would then start using the dollar coin which lasts up to 7 times longer than the paper currency. That would be the real savings and the vaults would start to be emptied out. I would think they would learn after the Susan B Anthony and the Sacagawea's how to make it work.

There is an error on the reverse but what kind is it?
I had a couple fo these with errors graded and both came back as MS67 from NGC. I did not indicate they were error coins though. Now I know the grade, I need some advice from all you experts. Is this a gradeable error by NGC and what type is it?

WOW...The Denver mint is still only .7 Mil??
US Mint just updated their coin mintage thus far for 2009. It is very hard to believe there is still only .7 million of the 2009 SAC "D"'s.

    Quite the Error Find!
Going through another box of circulated half dollars and finding another 13 - 40% Silver Kennedy Halves, I just happened to glance at one of the roll ends that caught my eye for the date. I find this amazing that this Struck Thru Error which is quite the error made it to circulated rolls. Course if it had not been at the end of the roll face up, I, too, would have not found it either. Makes you wonder what else is sitting in a box waiting in some vault to be discovered. Now the date could be 1985 too but I am pretty certain it is 1995. The reverse also is Struck Thru but is not quite as extentive.

What would you call this error?
I just received two $250 boxes of SAC 2010 dollars. I have only gone through a few rolls and already found 6 of these error coins on the reverse. May not be worth much but sure is fun when you find something new!

Time to switch gears.  Focusing on buying some investment property and need some capital. I haven't really added much
to my coin collection in awhile either.  I decided all my SAC, Presidential dollars and Silver Eagles must go.  If anyone is
interested, please look at my sets and let me know what tweaks your interest.  I am not done being part of this society just
    clearing house...

Could this be the end of FDI Presidential dollars?

Satin finish to be discontinued; brilliant finish reinstatedFrom the US Mint web site:WASHINGTON - The United States Mint today announced that it is discontinuing the satin finish on numismatic uncirculated coins produced for the United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set? and other products. Instead, beginning in 2011, uncirculated-quality coins will feature a brilliant finish. The United States Mint began using the satin finish for its uncirculated coins in 2005 to be consistent with other products in its portfolio, such as commemorative coins. The satin finish, however, highlights surface marks that inherently result from the coin-handling systems. Although the United States Mint modified the process to improve the coin appearance, there is no cost-effective way to completely eliminate the coin-on-coin contact that causes surface nicks. As a result, the United States Mint will revert back to the brilliant finish used on uncirculated coins prior to 2005. This change will result in more aesthetically pleasing coins with a finish that does not highlight surface flaws. It will only be featured on uncirculated-quality one-cent, 5-cent, dime, quarter-dollar, half-dollar and dollar coins

    US Mint changes
I just noticed that the US Mint now will allow up to 5 ATB's from the same address instead of only one. Like that stopped dealers from ordering more than the limit.
And now the US Mint is going to mint 35,000 per coin but will still charge $279 each. Hopefully they will start producing better quality...
    Happy opening NFL season!

I found a place still taking orders online for $99
After watching the activity on Ebay on the 2010 Silver Eagles and others reporting the poor quality and the USMint limiting production... its hard to get a good feeling just what the real situation could be.
I broke down and ordered one from the very company that advertises on our webpage here. http://www.moderncoinmart.com
Their site said they sold out right away but are expecting more for delivery later this week.
For those of you that don't send Silver Eagles in for grading...(like me) it might pay you to least check it out and perhaps save a few bucks if they do go a lot higher.
Happy Ground Hogs Day.....and no..I won't be repeating this entry over and over....

Registry Awards have lost their luster!
Again, This may come across as mean and a poor sport but changes are needed for the registry awards.
Cancer has spread across many registry sets and doesn't seem to have any cure and is not slowing down. LLC's have taken over many modern sets buying up all high grade coins overpaying many times what the coins would be worth in the future all for a small piece of paper saying...I'm am number 1 again... but it also is saying "I have unlimited resources with no liability or concern."
This is NOT what the intent is with registry awards that is only about the $$$. It is a hobby and a lot of us spend the time and effort find those raw coins and grading them ourselves and then having them graded. There is pride and joy for that reward. It is great having a number one set when there is effort on our part.
All major league sport have adopted a even playing field so all teams have an equal advantage so no one team can acquire all the best players with an unlimited budget. This causes more competition and attention and hope for all the teams.
I personally have stopped trying to chase any registry set that has a "LLC" in that set. There will be no competition for those sets because of the unfair advantage. Isn't the registry for everyone not just the rich or hide under the corporation laws that protect them. I see a real decrease in modern sets since only a select few can chase the number one set. I still don't understand if someone has unlimited wealthy, why on earth bother with modern coins at all. Go play with the big boys on gold and high end Morgan dollars and older more scarce coinage.
I propose that either all registry awards be stopped until this "cancer" can be controlled and can be more open for everyone whether you have wealth or not. Or limit the number of awards that can be offered so more members have a better chance to increase competition again.
All we ask is that this society remain fair for everyone. Lets not reward the "LLC's" anymore.

    Another Six step nickel
I have been lucky enough to find a six step 1987 P nickel and came back MS67 from NGC. Now I am lucky again with a 1971 P nickel MS66 six steps from NGC. Only 3 at this grade and only one higher!! I am not always correct with the grade at times but I am getting the hang of full steps.
Everyone enjoy the MLB playoffs...Go Brewers!

Only 4 exists in the NGC census!!
Once is a great while you find a coine worth grading while looking for something else. I usually buy 1981 mint sets on Ebay now and again looking for that MS67 SBA. I have been lucky before so I am still hopeful it will happen again.
This 1981 D Jefferson Nickel Business Strike MS66 NGC 5FS coin has lots of luster and a great strike, hard to find from the 70's and 80's. I usually don't collect business strike nickles but I could not just toss it away either.
I was able to find three 2011 dollar MS68's too. My second submission arrived at NGC today!
Happy St Patty's DAY though I am mostly Norwegian and am still waiting for Happy Norwegian Day...
    Happy hunting!

    Mutiple errors
Lately the US Mint has created some very interesting errors with their Sacagawea Business Strike Dollars.
This one has a missing eye, parts of the mouth and face are missing. A Hugh Die Break too. I don't collect error coins but I know other collectos love them.
Amazing when you are looking at how the strike is on the coin and then your eye catches that she is missing hers!

Yes...NGC still will do First Day Issue!
I only sent in five Grant dollars to NGC to see if they would still do FDI. I maybe the only one that even tried. I know that will open the floodgates again for the following Presidents.

Tempted to return this sets but not sure if I would get any better next time.
I gotta tell ya, these new Presidential Proof Sets are the worst I've seen from the US Mint in awhile. Remember the commemorative Old Mint from last year. Most had fine scratches and/or tiny pit marks. They are on these proofs as well including most are stained as well. If you look at the design closely, you will see why it will be near impossible to obtain a perfect PF70 on these coins. Also, I have found what appears to be exact die breaks on the edges on all 4 presidents at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock when looking at Lady Liberty. Looks like it was there before the edges got the incused lettering.
What would cause this die break on every one? or am I seeing it wrong? Anyways, I bought 2 sets of NGC PF69 for about $65 which would be about what it would be for me to grade them myself. I would guess that a complete PF70 set would be well over $1000 because it would take hundreds of sets to find just 4 perfect ones.
The Mint better wake up and start getting these right or most will stop early on collecting these proofs!!
UPDATE: After further review and thought, those very well could be designed "stops" so the incursed lettering would be placed in the same locations on the edge each time.....Any thoughts or are these indeed a die break? Either way, they are causing some separation with the edge or waviness on the face.

PCGS does not always grade stricker than NGC
I submitted (7) 2007 Adams MS66 to crossover to NGC. Only two of them got the MS66 grade to crossover...This makes me wonder if we are all paying too much for slabbed PCGS when their grades could be less than than NGC. Sounds like more hype than real to me. Just had to add my two cents!
Has anyone else come across this recently?

Separate sets now for Mint Strike, FDI, SMS and more.
NGC now has split up the Presidential dollar sets to allow more members to obtain a Number 1 set.
    Thanks NGC!!!
    May God Bless everyone

Just what does Early Releases label offer??
Let me first state that I am not against the "Early Releases" label but I do not understand why we need it at all.
I could see it when it was just the Silver Eagles and how some collectors want just that label or collect every label that exists.
So... as a collector...do we collect the coin or the grading company or the label? Does anyone really care if they get an Early Release nickel or Presidential dollar when there is no extra points given to those.
For me, I'd much rather have all my collection the same. I see no value of Early Releases especially when the previous coins were just regular labels. I know NGC charges more for a few extra letters on the label. That makes sense when they offered First Day Issue because of the tight deadline to submit and there are more points offered as well. But...all in all.. doesn't matter if the coin has the label Early Releases or First Day Issue, most of the coins were all minted about the same time.
I still buy the coin not the label type as long as its from NGC. In hundred years, will anyone really care or will it matter if it was Early Releases?
