Both are simply a guidebook for US coins. They provide coin populations and will help you understand important varieties.
Neither of these publications is worth much at all when it comes to buying coins at auction since auction prices for the vast majority of coins are most often lower than the prices published in these handbooks.
I see auction participants often who show up with the publication "Coin Prices", while closer, it's also off on most coins.
For common coins a used Grey Sheet's "bid" prices are accurate at least 90% of the time. For rare and unique coins researching auction prices through Heritage or the PCGS web page will provide an actual history you can use as a guidepost.

Sweet Walker CB04.

The 1946 should be worth $90 on it's own.

Nice new pickups guys.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but the coin is a 1964 D, not exactly a rare coin with over a billion minted. Sure it might be a top pop, but maybe the fact that sane people don't have $1 coins encapsulated has something to do with that being so.
This is just further evidence to me that Registry Set collectors a) have way too much disposable income, b) create a market for widgets that really aren't wort squat any other way.
That said, there's probably 10 people fighting over this simple dime.

My understanding is that large lots (usually Dealer lots) could be submitted for encapsulating with just the Uncirculated designation, for cheap. NGC confirmed they were gradable, and genuine without the task of assigning a MS ** number.

Those commems are nicer than the assigned grades.

Well, the reverse looks to be about fine +.

Couple beautiful toners in the last few pages.
Nice coins everyone!!!

Nice handful of change all.

Beautiful quarters.

Posted this back on page 1698. I got it back from our host today. It was bought in a PCI (green tag) holder as MS 65. NGC graded it MS 66.
I'm not complaining.

1880 S was in a PCI MS 65 holder. I think they got it right and I'm hoping for an MS 65 from NGC as well. The photos don't show the eye appeal like in hand but it's like a cameo proof obverse and "some" cameo on the reverse.
I'll know in a week or so.

Cracked out and currently in Sarasota.

My pictures make it look much rougher than in hand. I wish I knew how to soften things up so every mark doesn't look fatal.
