Life is to short to worry about the future.
Today my 2011 S 1C PF 70 RD Ultra Cameo arrived. Finally I got to complete my 2011 Silver Proof Set. As I check all of my other modern coin sets that need to be filled I come to the conclusion I am in for a long wait. I am a 60 year old cancer survivor who has gone through 3 bone marrow transplants.I started collecting in 2009 when a friend got me involved in it. That is the year I found out I had bone cancer. I love my coins but I do not know how long I will be around to finish what I started. I thought about it and decided to continue working on my sets for my two daughters. Life is so full of wonders. I showed a coin to my daughters and told them this coin is 142 years old. Just think of the history of it and what you will tell your grandchildren about it. Yes coin collecting is fun and so rewarding. I hope to continue till I am 100 years old. Besides it is and investment for them.
    Happy Collecting

4 REVERSE PROOF coins added the Presidential Dollars, 2007-Date, Proof set
What a surprise I got when I returned home from a bone marrow transplant in NYC.. Spent 5 months away from home and my coins. I have been working on the Presidential Dollars, 2007-Date, Proof set. I had all except the year 2015. Went on Ebay and found them at a good price. When I finished entering them I noticed that there were 4 coins added to the set. REVERSE PROOF of Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and LBJ to my surprise. I am looking for some 70s to add but can not find them. And if I do they will be too expensive for me for such a small set. Well I might not finish my set but I still have my health God willing.
    Happy Collecting folks.

I have been collecting the Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set since 2007.
This year's 2015 Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set of four coins included Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson dollar coins in proof finish. Will there be a 2016 Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set? With President Nixon, Ford and Reagan.( just looked at my set and the 2016 only has Nixon and Ford Reagan is missing.) Hopefully Carter will survive his cancer. And the 2016 will only have two. What will the value of the coins be since the the program is scheduled to go until 2016 when all currently eligible presidents have been honored? Not to sound morbid but if George Bush or Carter die will they strike up a set?

No Graded 70's for the SP Enhanced Sacagawea Dollar Coin and Currency Set
Why are there more 70's graded 2014 S Sacagawea $1 Native Hospitality Ultra Cameo while 2014 SACAGAWEA $1 Native Hospitality SP ENHANCED DOLLAR COIN & CURRENCY SET are graded 69? You would think that the mint would have been more careful with the 50,000 coin and currency set.

Is it worth it to get send a coin back to get a SP to a DPL
Just got this set and when I open the box my eyes were wide open...it is the WOW! factor. A nice Xmas and birthday gift to myself . My one thought is should I submit the 2014 S 50th Ann. Silver Kennedy Half Dollar High Relief SP 70 for a DPL SP 70 grade?

Has NGC started to adjust price value?
Has anyone notice that the price guide has been updated. What I mean some of my coins have no movement on the price forever but my 1992 1C MS 69 RED INCREASED 26.88%

    Top of the list fininaly.
I started collecting back in 2009. I am still new at this but through the years I have found the hobby to be an expensive and challenging one. Well I just go my four 2013 President 1$ PF 70 Ultra Cameo coins back. I have 3 more years before the set is completed unless we lose a president. When I first started collecting I never would have known that within two years I would some day be number one in a coin set. That day came in 2011 when I landed on the top of the list ranked number one of the Jefferson Nickels, Westward Journey, 2004-2005, Proof Issue set as the number one holder of this set. Now I am working on my Jefferson Nickels 1965-Date, Proof Issue set. My rank is now 35 and I have a long way to go and I am hoping to hit the lottery to advance my ranking to number one. Hard work pays off in so many ways.
    Happy Collecting,

Just Received My 5 Coins From NGC 4 ASE Set and 100 Greatest 100 #86
I started to get my modern coins graded because my insurance required appraisal for my coins or I just get melt value for them. Not having a lot of money I just get 5 coins a year. Well this year I got two sets of the ASE West Point. So I started to debate whether to send them or just keep them un-graded. Well after seeing the market for ASE WP 70's set for $289 and up it was cheaper to send them off and hope for 70s. Total cost for 5 coins was $88.00 which included Photo, Insurance, and Shipping and Invoice fee. Got back 3 70's and one 69. I was lucky that two of the 70s were the Enhanced ASE ones. I also sent in the 2005 P Marines rank #86 in the 100 Greatest US Modern Coins 1st ed. That came back a 69. Now I could have got one off of Ebay cheaper I believe. I have a lot of ASE and silver world coins not graded. I think it is going to be a long 6 years or so before I get them all graded.
    Happy Collecting,
    Ed

Very happy that I got 70's for my Enhanced Finished coins. And to have a West Point set graded 70. All coins are labeled with the West Point Label.

    Coins arrived at NGC
I was debating to send in my 2 West Point Set or not.. I sent them in then I heard of the submission from the coin cook that got 2% of his coins back as 70's. to date. I also heard that he told his audience that he brought 10 percent of the total WP ASE on sale. He is selling 1600 coins at 69. Here is hoping for 70's. and not paying an arm and a half for it.

    Where is the quality control?
My wife called me at work to let me know that my coins have arrived. When I got home and open the boxes and to my surprise I have two damage capsule. My plan was to send in one set to NGC and keep the other for show with my other sets. Both enhance coin have damage capsule. One not so noticeable the other damn noticeable. I can not win. I did not want to send in two sets but I might have too. I am going to wait till the weekend to look at the coins closely before sending them out. I should be cooled down my then.
I hope others have great success then I did.
    Happy Collecting,

Have you seen the pic of the upcoming ASE that the U.S. Mint will be releasing in May of this year?
It will only be sold in a set from the West Point Mint. The Mint is calling it an enhanced Uncirculated American Eagle.
The 2013 American Eagle West Point Two-Coin Silver Set will include the enhanced Uncirculated American Eagle and a reverse proof American Eagle. These coins will not be sold separately.. Unlike the SF set this will be a unique set since. Your thoughts on this coin.

    5 Ounce ATB's 2010 Two 70's Three 69's
I have 8 ATB's 5 ounce coins that I purchased from the Mint. I decided to take the chance to get them graded. For the first 5 from 2010 series I got back two 70's and 3 69's. I look at the coin and thought they were all 70's...what the hell the US Mint takes very special handling in the coins so I figured they should rate high. Well they did not and I would like to know why. I wish NGC would tell why your coin graded the way it did so I know what to look for next time. Could have been all 68's so I guess I doing well.

Do we need another Over Priced Silver Proof See?
What is going on with the US MINT? According to Mint News Blog the mint is releasing 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set, which is scheduled for release on November 27, 2012. The 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set will include the following proof coins:
    * American Silver Eagle with W mint mark
    * 5 Quarters in 90% silver
    * 1 Half Dollar in 90% silver
    * 1 Dime in 90% silver
At a price of $149.95. with a 50,000 maximum mintage - two per house hold. That is $22.05 more if you would have got just the Silver Proof Set and a ASE which total together $127.90 so in reality one is paying $22 more just for packaging.
So someone tell me what is limited about this package? I have 1 2012 Silver Proof Set, a couple of ASE Proof coin, 5 2012 ATB Quarters 90% Silver NGC PF70s, One 2012 NGC PF70 Kennedy Half Dollar in 90% silver and one 2012 Silver Roosevelt Dime NGC PF70 UC so why would I buy this limited edition silver proof set?
Oh yes I have the 2012-S San Francisco Two-Coin Proof Set which I thought would be exclusive at the time which turn out not to be.

    Selling Bullion on Ebay warnning
In 2010 I brought 5 Vancouver 2010 Olympic Silver Coin .9999 at a price of $26 each at different times a total cost for 1 coin was $28.50. So I put one on Ebay 2010 Canadian Maple Hockey Player .9999 Silver Coin 1 Ounce Silver Bullion for $40.00 and $4.50 for shipping which had only one bider at the starting price. After the shipping, ebay, and paypal cost total of $7.24. Now silver is trading at $32.38 an ounce. Subtacting my expensess I sold the coin for $1.22 over spot. Just could have gone down to my coin dealer and sold it to him.
Ebay and paypal has increased their prices to the point it is not worth it to sell bouillon on Ebay. Lesson well learned.

2009 was a great year for collecting coins fo me.
Hello to all my fellow collectors I hope 2011 was great year for all you're collecting. I started collecting back in 2009. I have come across some nice coins here in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain. I fell in love with the ASE and started to collect them only to be shot down by the US Mints miss handling of the series. Now I do not know if the broken series is worth the hard work of collecting the full series. My first purchase was the 2009 Lincoln Proof and Uncirculated Commemorative Silver Dollar, the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle and the 2008 Martin Van Buren's not slabbed. I started to buy slabbed coins because I found it easier then sending coins to NGC for a 70 grade. I started collecting when a friend showed me his collection. I started as a hoby and I do not think I will ever be as good in collecting fine coins like some of the collectors here. I admire the serious collector's and their ablities to find great coins. I have to settel to just find them on auction sites. My reasoning is simple I am not that good at telling if a coin has been alter or cleaned. For example I sent to NGC 5 1986 ASE, (two proof and three uncirculate) and 4 came back as 69's and one improper cleaning.
Now that I have been collecting some coins for a few years, I have 3 competitive sets that have been ranked number one (although I am not at the top of the series). To me this is an accomplishment that I never thought I would ever be able to obtain within two years. My quest is to get ASE First Year Of Issue but to buy one from an auction is way too expansive so I will continue to find 1986 ASE and send it in hoping my eye did catch an ASE. 70.
    Happy Collecting to all,
    Ed

    Which set is more value?
Question which one of the two 2011 25th ASE Anniversary Set and 2012 75th San Francisco Anniversary Set was a better buy or value? As I see it the 25th had a low mintage and the reverse proof was only the second one ever minted at Philadelphia the only special coin was the uncalculated coin minted at San Francisco. But I see the 75th a better value because, although it has a high mintage than the 25th, that it has two coins minted at the San Francisco Mint with the San Francisco mint mark on the coins in a set that has never been in a set together before from the San Francisco Mint. Yes the ASE Proof had been minted at the San Francisco Mint during the start till 1992 but the reverse proof along with the proof ASE makes it special in my eyes with the San Francisco Mint "S" mint mark. Your thoughts?

Is the 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set going to be a low mintage?
As of Friday 15th the total sale of the 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set was 131,512. With only 19 days left what do you think the mintage will be.

Ever feel you can't save enouugh money for a coin.
If you haven't read this here it is. Rare penny minted in 1792 and never circulated was auctioned off for $1.15 million. There are believed to be only 14 copies of the rare penny in existence. The rare penny, made from copper and incases a small plug of silver, depicts Miss Liberty in the front side ringed by the phrase "Liberty Parent of Science & Industry." At the back side of it, it reads "United States of America One Cent." Todd Imhof, Executive Vice President of Heritage Auctions who organized the event, said that the silver was added to the penny to make it heavier. He also said that the penny was never actually put into circulation as it was just an experimental coin.

    Bragging Rights?
The US Mint did a nice job on stamping out these proofs. I love this years design better than 2011 except for the Gettysburg National Military Park. I might start getting some of the 5oz if my wallet can afford it. $204 is such a better price than the price I paid for the 2010 series.
On another note. Since starting my collecting and joining NGC in 2009 to keep track of my coins in the year of 2011, I ranked #1 for three coin competitive sets and received a (3) BEST CATEGORY 2011. That was nice to see that my efforts paid off. But the surprise was getting 3 certificates from NGC recognizing my efforts. I know I am new to coin collecting, but it was nice to receive the certificates in the mail which impressed my two girls.
Now it is a start of a New Year and I am down in one of my sets. I come to realize if I want to be on top I have to be faster in getting my coins up. When the Silver America The Beautiful National Park 25c Proof 70's came up for auction they were going for over $170.00. That was way too expensive for me. The wait of winner an auction for less caused my NGC Top Ranking Set to drop down from a number one to number 3. I've come to the conclusion that bragging rights is not for me. I stick to saving up form my Jefferson sets. Unless I win the lottery then everyone better watch out.

Just added two coins to my Jefferson collection.
My search has ended now I have two of the Jefferson's that are in the . The first one I found is Rank #44 and #15 100 Greatest U. S. Modern Coins; 1st Ed. 1994 P 5 cent Jefferson nickel Matte "Special Uncirculated" NGC SP 69.
In 1993 Thomas Jefferson was honored with a commemorative silver dollar for the 250th Anniversary of his birth. The US Mint issued a special Thomas Jefferson Coin and Currency set that included an uncirculated 1993 P Jefferson 250th Anniversary silver dollar, a Series 1976 $2 Federal Reserve Note and an Uncirculated 1994 P Jefferson nickel. What made this set so special, the US Mint struck a special presentation coin for inclusion with the set: a nickel with a special matte finish. The matte finish had not been used on any nickel since 1916. In fact, it had not been used on any U. S. coin since 1922! Matte-finish coins are made for presentation purposes, and often these coins will receive multiple blows from coinage dies so as to show their detail more crisply. These coins have the full steps!! Because of the inclusion of the matte-finish Jefferson nickel, Coin and Currency Set was a big seller. 167,703 were sold and the only way to get one of these special matte-finish nickels was to buy the set. They were not sold any other way. Because of this, 100 Greatest U. S. Modern Coins ranks this #44
Rank # 15 in 100 Greatest U. S. Modern Coins; 1st Ed. NGC SP 69! Full Steps Blast White!!! The only way to get one of these special matte-finish nickel was in the 1997 Botanic Garden Coin & Currency Set and only around 25,000 were sold!
Some day maybe I will have more to add to this collection.
    Happy Collecting,

1997 P Jefferson Nickel NGC SP 69 RANK #15 100 GREATEST MODERN US COINS
After missing out on this coin last week I finally was able to secure it. Trying to get as many 100 Greatest Modern US Coins and believe that will take me well into the future. Unless I win the NYS lottery. I have to settle for a 69 because the 70's are way too expensive for me at this time. Hell I shouldn't have but I did.
On another subject I found out that I was once number one for the Registered Sets in National Parks Quarters, 2010-Date, Proof Issue (Clad and Silver) only to be knock down to 8th place. Now I know why all the silver NPQ were going fast on ebay. Someone wanted to be at the top of the number 1 position. I can not see paying $175.00 for a proof 70 set. I settled for $118.00 for the proof 70 set. (Missed out on one that sold for $91.00) I won't have the bragging rights but I did save me some money.
The photo below is of Deputy Director of the U.S. Mint Andy Brunhart and me when they cam to our TV station to talk about the official launch ceremony for the Millard Fillmore Presidential Dollar being held in Moravia, New York. The ceremony was co-hosted by the United State Mint and the Cayuga-Owasco Lakes Historical Society.
In my hands is the 20th Silver Eagle Anniversary Set. I asked him if the US Mint was going to release the 2010 Proof Silver Eagles. At the time he won't comment on it and said he was upset that the 2009 was not made. He collects them too.

Added some Jeffersons to my colections and one being Rank #44 of the 100 Greatest.
This week I had a little money buy some Jefferson coins. I got beat out in an auction for a nice 1994 P Jefferson Nickel Matte "Special Uncirculated" NGC SP 69
Rank # 44 100 Greatest US Modern Coins for $41.00. My wife asked me a question and I forgot to increase my bid within the last 5 seconds. Found it on another auction and won it for $67.00 so I learn my lesion when bidding at the last seconds hide from my wife. There are a few other Jefferson's I plan of getting but I have to save up some cash.
One down and 99 to go to complete the 100 Greatest U.S. Modern Coins 1st ed.
Whom am I kidding unless I come into some real bucks it will always be a dream. In NYS they say "Hey you never know". Now is the time to sell off my ASE Proof coins from 2000 -2011.
